well i did it....well kinda, no smoke came from it but they did screech a little, until i got scared that someone was gonna call the cops on me..all i had to do was put it in first.

By manual do you mean one that's hooked to a cable that you pull? To me that's tough to beat on an old truck, and is the simplest way to go.

yea the one thats in the dash, thats what i have now, i was looking into a new carburetor and saw that there were two choices to choose form

I've had electric ones also and they work well...when they work.
Not much can go wrong with a cable.

Except judgment about when, and how much, to use it.
Not everybody can figure out when an engine needs choking, and how much it needs for the given conditions.
That's why the automatic chokes were developed.
If you know what you're doing, go with the cable-operated manual.
