Andy there's tons of material online for CDL stuff. Over 10,000 GVW trailer = CDL required and once you've got your CDL the state considers you a "professional driver" so you will get less leniency on the side of the road (usually) and your allowable BAC before DUI is about half. You also need to carry a "med card" and get it renewed every 2 years.
You can read the CDL handbook there or if you don't mind waiting I'll grab a hard copy at DMV when I go for my permit next month.
In my opinion it's easiest to just have a class A CDL and not have to worry about "can i drive it?" again.
I intend to get CDL class A (combination vehicle) and air brakes at the same time. I'll go back at a later date and get a tanker endorsement and doubles endorsement. I haven't been able to find any information on whether or not I can get those at 18 or if I can't get them til I'm 21. I know I'm limited to intrastate (not interstate) until I'm 21 which is stupid cause I can have 2 years under my belt and not be able to legally go interstate while someone 21 can go interstate the day they get their CDL.
If you could pick a copy up that would be great Pete.
Can I get a class A without airbrake endorsement?
If not I would need to find a truck to learn on and take the test?
pete are you planning on driving doubles? all the truckers called them "wiggle wagons" because they dont really follow the truck down the road.
i have my M endorsment. thats pretty much covers me up to triples with hazmat right?
M is motorcyle, bud.
Andy, you can get your class A without an airbrakes endorsement. Just get a 10,000lb + GVW trailer and take your truck and you can take your test in that and get your class A.
I used to be a big customer at EW, who is your inside sales guy? George G?
I think you mistake me for someone who spends a lot of money on material. I'm a go in and get it at the counter kinda guy. I think I was asked because I know the counter guys in Manchester real well from going in there all the time.

EW is not my main supplier, and I only buy about $5k per year. My main supplier I spend between $12k and $15k per year.
The wife and kids went as well, and we all ate. Well, almost all of us ate.

True, but I was surprised they even asked me seeing that I'm not a heavy hitter. I guess being nice to the counter guys and branch managers goes further than I thought.
They WANT you as a customer Brendon.
They are writing off the picnic as an expense, but you may meet a salesman there.
Or they can push a new product or line.
I get asked to promotional events all the time, and I'm fine with it.
They didn't push anything on us this time. It was a great night to get out with the kids. They seemed to have a good time, even though neither of them knew what the hell was going on.

i believe you could get a class a without air brakes but you wouldnt be able to drive anything. also even though you need a cdl for your truck and trailer, I dont believe that you can use that setup to test in. i know that is stupid, but it is ct dmv.
also no one said anything about the med card. make sure you have that
