Good morning guys.
How hard is it to get a CDL
The travel trailers we are looking at to maybe get in the next couple of years are over 10,000 lbs.
As I under stand it with my truck ( with commercial plates ) and a trailer over 10,000 lbs I need a CDL.
I would not need the air brake cert.
Pete if you have the book or paperwork for the test can I look at it?

The last time I checked DMV law in CT, that's right ^^^ - 10,000lbs gross trailer weight or over requires a CDL class A license.
I've been dragging my feet on getting one, but I'm going to checking out the truck driving school one of these days.
Andy, if you have combination plates on your truck, and camper plates on your trailer, you dont need the CDL. If you have commercial plates, not only do you need the CDL but also DOT #s
Once you go over a combined weight of 18,000. It doesnt matter what plates the trailer has, you need the DOT #s if the truck has commercial plates. I have heard other people say different, but try explaining it to the officer on the side of the road, as he is writing your ticket................
i think you need a company name and town/state displayed as well. right?
DOT numbers are the most important. Followed by the company name. DOT numbers will give them the town and state. By that time the officer has your registration anyways.
