Remanufactured 300?

Can anyone suggest a company to buy a 1986 4.9 300 from? There are so many. One place I called seemed pretty decent. Gearheadengines.com

thanks, one more thing. My truck came with a smog, but was removed. I want to get the engine without the smog. Will I have any issues doing this. Anything I need to replace or take off?

Are you talking about AIR or EGR? A reman long block isn't going to know the difference with or without.

I can get the engine with or without smog holes. I think this is for the exhaust system. I'm a newbie with motors, so sorry if I sound retarded. I am wondering if I don't put the motor with the smog in if that will mess up anything else like the computer, etc.

Well, now would be a good time to back up to 1983 or older DS2 ignition system and carb and get away from the DFC (Dreaded Feed-back Carb) then you can do away with the computer controller and if you get a head with the AIR ports, just plug them with plugs of the correct thread which you can probably obtain at most any hardware store.

what do I need to order for this? Can I get this stuff at Autozone? Would I need a 1983 distributor and a new carburetor?

My other motor is gone and I put a 84' motor in the 86' truck just to get it going for $150. I can't check the oil because the dipstick is in the wrong place. I am going to get a 1986 reman without the smog holes. I just need someone to tell me what to get because I also think that something is wrong with the computer (previous owner thought). So I'm wanting to do a full restore on the truck and motor. I got this truck so it would force me to learn about this stuff. I have no experience, but am willing to listen and research. Also, would it be better to do the dsII swap before or after I get the other motor? Do I need a new carb and what year should I get? I think I need a new harness, will this effect the warning light or guages? Thanks for your help.

Make sure that anything you do doesn't conflict with state smog regulations if there are any.
