UPDATE... i replaced the DPFE sensor, cleared the codes and went for a ride. it took almost 7 miles for the check engine light to come back on (last time it was back on in 2 min). the codes are p0153,1151which point to the upstream drivers side 02 sensor. and a p0401 EGR. i do suspect a leaking EGR gasket that i will change when i get home (the weather has been crappy). could that be setting the other codes, or do i need to change the 02 sensor? also, how far is a "drive cycle" ? because i am wondering if the other codes may come back. which were...p0402,p1401 and p1151.

update part 2

i just finished replacing the EGR gasket, the old one fell apart. i went ahead and replaced the upstream o2 sensor on the driver side. i am no expert, but an o2 sensor is not supposed to rattle is it? i am going on a test drive and see what happens. what exactly, or how long is a drive cycle?

after 12 miles, code p0401, insufficiect egr flow, came back. is the egr valve bad? or the controller?

after reading every post on this forum with code p0401 in it, i decided to pull the throttle body and elbow for cleaning. i had no idea that it could get this gunked up.
