Should be a cool project, I've thought about it and came up with it'd be easier to swap the 70's body on the complete chassis. That won't work for you(Jesse) though, means your stroke is only 2wd. ( I think I told you that before, oh well ). Have fun with it for sure.
That is definately going to be an interesting build. I look forward to more pics.
keep in mind you will have to use the Sterling rear axle. This will allow your speedo to work and the tranny will not shift correctly without the reading from the VSS in the axle.
Good luck, Awesome project.
Way ahead of you there, I know that, cause I told my mom I had to swap out the old Dana for my Sterling1025 and she asked why and I told her cause of the speed sensor. Yeah like I said already thought that out, and today I went threw my grandpa's garage (RIP) Never knew the man but grandma gave me all his stuff, and he was know for his ford trucks so I got a ton of parts (mainly molding and accesories) But I hope tog et more pictures up soon.
Yeah Darin we talked about this before, and I think this will be way fun, it will show I do have some fabrication ability. Yeah it would be way easier to swap cab and bed over to a chassis, but like you said mine is 2WD, and this is my way of getting 4WD =). I hope to get a FTE sticker made for the back glass. ANyways thanks guys for all the help I appreciate it, also appreciate nice critcism, and I appreciate you guys in general.
Well thursday I worked for my buddy getting in hay, had a 12 hour word day made 84 dollars, the mom game me a little extra so I could go buy this.
Then the guy threw in the rims
bought the front end from the same guy bought the truck from now I got all 4 white rims and a chrome rim painted white. I plan on snad blasting them then painting them, I dont know if I will go silver, black, or white.
Try to find a place that powercoats and get the rims coated. It'll hold up a lot better than paint will. Worth the money in the long run.
I like the round headlights better than the squares... I like the original grill on the truck a lot better than on the new front clip. Just my opinion though.
well the new front clip is made to use round headlight (Yeah 78-79 trucks did have a option for round head lights) and I like the older split grill also, but to replace them cost out the ***... No 7 dollars a hour isn't technically minimum wage, but I work in the hay fields, and I get all the gatorade and little debbie cakes I can drink/eat, and I get a full dinner, so 7 dollars an hour is fair, plus I am on the clock when I get picked up, and its about 20 minute drive there and back, so its all and all fair. Made 18 dollars today just going out and riding with him to move round bales. Anyways, took the front bumper off and started getting ready to take off the old front clip. Then I will mess with lifting the cab off the frame so it can be worked on and to swap the engines. I got a little more work done on the cab, just been busy lately, should be getting more updates here soon.
OMG.. There is some cancer to deal with there! I cant wait to see what you get accomplished with that!!! I seen your floorboard work, so I am excited to see how you take on the cab mounts! Good job on that tear down! When is the motor/trans coming out
I think the way I will take the stuff out of the PSD is drop the tranny so I dont have to worry about amnuvering it out with the engine, and then I can put the engine on a engine stand and tinker with it while mess with seeting the tranny in place on the frame to get that stuff done.
