I am needing to know what the correct engine colors are on my 1965 f-600 with 330 2v engine. The original paint is long gone and want to paint the parts prior to engine reassembly. Thanks in advance.
Black engine block, heads, intake manifold. I don't recall what color the valve covers were painted.
Whatever it was, there were two different 330 engines. The 330 M/D's valve covers would have been painted a different color than the 330 H/D's valve covers.
The reason for the varied valve cover colors (1952/65): This is how Ford mechanics/partsguys, indie garages and body shops identified what sizes the engines were...for everything.
Truck valve covers were painted different colors than car valve covers, even if the engine was the same size, causing mass confusion.
Beginning in 1966, this confusing rigamarole was eliminated. ALL 1966 Passenger Car/Truck/Bronco/Econoline engines were painted Ford Corporate Blue...including the valve covers.
I used the darker one on my motor. The 302 came out of a '72 Mustang, so that should be correct for the motor if not the truck.
The six I took out was Chevy orange, as was most of the old engine wiring.
well, the ol f600 is finally at my house. I am going to paint the heads and intake black.THe valve covers are some redish orange. when I get them clean I will post some pics for opinions. THis is NOT going to be a show truck but IF I am doing it I would like to be right as I can.
Easy way to pull it out from the shallow grave it was laid to rest in. She has risen again love the big F series trucks can't wait for more on this project good luck.
I cleared all the parts from the cab out and brought into the shop.
Started cleaning the vc's and sure buff they are orange. I guess I need totry and clean on the block a bit. I want to at least make what iI have touched look OK .
Yea it was pretty forlorn. I can't wait for it to be drivable. Them grain sides need to be off.I'm thinking short wood sides maybe for just tooling round town lol
One of these days I will have to hunt up that little filler panel between fender and running board on the drivers side.
The valve covers were "Ford Red" on 1965 330 medium duty engines. This color was a reddish-orange color, not a chevy orange color. Available from companies like Eastwood. Valve covers were argent silver on 330 heavy duty engines. Your engine code is on the vin#.
