The valve covers were "Ford Red" on 1965 330 medium duty engines. This color was a reddish-orange color, not a chevy orange color. Available from companies like Eastwood. Valve covers were argent silver on 330 heavy duty engines. Your engine code is on the vin#.
Are you still around sir? I found some Ford red as on a Ford tractor. Think that is close? I had bought it for a project and not used it. I'm going to take the vc in to work tomorrow to clean up. The oil pan is looking great after I cleaned it yesterday at work. It did in fact have some black paint remnants under the nasty. The dipstick adapter gasket looks like it needs some love.
Yea eek eek. Sounds high, though I haven't had machine work done in ages.
My guy says usually it's 25/per but since he did all the rest he will cut me a brake.
I guess after the holidays I'll get it done. Too busy right now. Lots of other work I can get done anyway on it in the meantime.
i finally bit the bullet and got these bushings in. Good thing i did. The crank had condensed enough moisture yo get a lil rust on it. It scotchbrited off but man i almost messed up. Either way moving forward.
P
well, moving forward. Sadly the pickip block has the boss but not drilled. No biggie, i drilled and tapped it. Pan is on. I cant find the dang head dowells tho. The search is on for them now

I have been tinkering slowly but surely. I have to get a seal repair sleve for the balancer, water pump, fuel pump. Maybe one of these days I'll get this pig stabbed in.
Lookin good. I take it you found your head dowels......or made some.
As it turns out they are the same .750 diameter as for the 385 series family. I got a set for 4.00 shipped on ebay.
I have been cleaning, painting, installing lots of small items for this. Today I got the seal surface repair sleve for the balancer finally so balancer is going on in a bit. I'm thinking maybe this weekend I'll pull the truck around in front of the shop for install. Pics will follow of that lol.
I have to say that installing that engine was challenging . I got 3 buddies to come over because the hoist was VERY unsteady. I let the air out of the front tires to help a bit.
Word to the wise, unbolt the brake booster!! Its bolted to the trans and sitting on the front mount. Now I have to get fuel line and fuel pump. Then water pump and some new hosses. Then swap the new-used fuel tank in...slow and steady wind the race...
Looks nice sitting in there.
New ex maniflods, or just bead blasted?
Did you put anti-seeze on the top row of manifold bolts?
Blasted and vht paint. Oh yes, copious amounts of antisieze. The head and manifold were both flat planed so just a slight skin of Rtv to seal them up...no gasket to burn out. Hopefully no exh leaks...I can't stand that...now I have to brake some cash loose for more parts. I can't wait to hear the ol'dude make fire again!!
On your gaskets, can't remember the years/applications, but they made thin metal ones that also lapped up and over, kinda protecting the plug wires from heat. They were all metal, unlike the common metal-skinned asbestos type gaskets.
Just in case you need to put some on at a later date.
