Well let's bring this back to life. Dropped the 360 block and 330 crank off at the machine shop a week ago. Block will need a boring and not sure how egg shaped and worn the crank will be. The original 330 block was cracked coming up off the front main cap . I did not find any options really to have gone much further on Pistons either.
I'm hoping my guy will have the work done in the next couple weeks and I can get the engine assembled. Wish me luck lol
Just read your post with interest....I have the same truck only mine is a '66 and it has the HD330 in it. I can empathize with your engine situation....it sux when your reality is less than you'd hoped. As you know, these trucks had FT motors in them--330 {2 forms} 361 and 391 (The 391 is the only one of the bunch with a 4V carb). They look a lot like FE motors from the outside, but most {if not all} the internals are much beefier. My point here is that when you start to mix and match FE with FT internals, you're looking for trouble cuz so much is different. If the news back from your machine shop is bad, I'd hold out and look for a complete FT that hopefully hasn't been sitting like yours did. Water inside is a bad thing for sure!! I have a 330MD spare short block sitting out back that can't ever be used again cuz it got water in it. The crank and rods I believe to be usable, but all else is junk.
IMO, using a 360 FE block in this truck is a big downgrade, but I understand that it'd be better than just letting the truck sit longer. If the 360 works out and gets the truck back on the road, you can then take your time looking out for a proper FT. Look for a 330HD, 361 or 391--those 3 are just beefy as hell and literally built to last forever....
well, better late than never. After a very long wait at the machine shop and me getting cash together ...the 330-360 is back at.my place..I have yet to get it up on the stand but hey, I'm trying lol
Number dummy, I'll move this over here.
It is an "A" code truck. Yes it's 360 block, rods, pistons now but it'll always just be a 330 to me lol.
Black block, heads etc...Ford red valve covers?
Air cleaner is what color? Hopefully in the next month I'll get the engine built.
Contents of said box..

I could tell no difference with them next to each other except the much smaller bore size. Engine mounts on sides,352 on the front etc. If there is a difference then I could not tell.
This thing won't get worked real hard tho anyway. Occasional load of gravel ,sand etc. I really just want to be able to drive it around honestly.
fresh .030 bore and square decked . Tomorrow up on the stand and start cleaning, final measurements and clearence checks. Very stoked to get it's project back to making work happen.
Well Debbie downer visited tonight. I had glanced at the wrist pin bushings..well not well enough. Guess I'll get to run the rods by the machine shop for bushings. Dangit I should have been more thorough before now.
Ouch...well stuff happens.
Take your pistons with you. They can fit each rod to each piston pin and press them on.
Those aren't floating pins if I remember right.

They are full floaters. 20 per rod plus the bushings @60$...eek
