Well I'm not sure what to do now.
I cleaned the inside out and knocked the roof up to a more unBoul like shape.
Next I started on prepping the engine to put the heads back on.

After much cleaning I oiled the cylinders up and attempted to roll the old gal over.

Not happening. Its stuck. I had it all wrapped up,greased up and what I thought would have been safe. i spun the oil pump with a drill. Well i found the problem. somehow the crank case is full of water.

At this point i just dont know what to do. I guess i will pull the pan and see how bad it is.

Man i am bummed.this engine ran so well before I had to pull the heads. I just don't see spending a bunch of money to repair the engine. I have my model t i plan on working on..not this truck. Grr

That's some bad news to find out after you got the heads all ready to be put back on. Sort of had the same thing happen to me last year pulled the heads on my 460 to be rebuilt and I got caught up on another project so they were on the back burner for awhile and now I'd need to hone some of the cylinders due to moisture. Let us know what you decide. I could always use those big fenders if you decide to get rid of the truck.

Well, after spraying with pb blaster it sat over night . I drained the pan and got some water out then the oil.I had forgotten about the very large 8qt industrial pan. I'm going to pull it but I think its mostly to clean.

I pushed one way on the fan and the other on the breaker bar..what do you know..i got the ol dude loose.I'm very excited now.I think it may live again.
Pics to follow.

After much dilebration I have decided to pull the engine. I'm afraid all that nasty varnish will have rings stuck in the ring lands. I'm going to pull the pan and pistons ,hone the cylinders, remove the rings, soak the pistons in carb cleaner and clean the ring grooves. That way I can properly clean the engine paint and when it goes back in I know it will run properly.

Also I think I will do some engine bay cleaning and coating..

This is not the project i needed to be doing but i guess i need to do it correct so im done with it.

Pics will come..i promise.

Rings were stuck on the first one.this was the right move for sure if its ever going to be dependable.

Pistons are all out.the crank looks great though I will put rod bearings in. I am going to need a set of rings. Several top rings are broken. All but just a couple are stuck from the varnish that started all of this mess.
The varnish was so terrible it ran down the bores and I had to razorblade it off before honing could happen.

Does anybody know standard bore diameter? 330 MD.

I find internet search to say 4" but I know that can't be correct. I'm in the 3.885" with my digital caliper.

So far I need.

Rings
Rod bearings
Core plugs
6 lifters
Oil pan gasket
Spark plugs
Rear main seal
Oil filter adapter gasket.
Fuel filter.
Belts
Rad hosses

This is a budjet build so I have to keep the money to a munimum sadly. Then I still have to tackle the brakes. I need to make it run first.

3.875 is standard 330 bore from what I find now.

3.885 is my bore. It has a decent ridge in it now after cleaning and ball honing.

I gave a 360 to a buddy years ago for a project that never happened. I spoke with him tonight. I think I am going to throw the ft crank in the 360,freshen it up as it was actually a very nice engine and use my top end thats already done up.

Does anybody see any problem with that?

My only worry is the front motor mount and the boss for the oil pickup support. I cant remember if my other fe engines have had that.

Project has begun spiraling out of control.

1964/67 330 2V M/D FT uses the 352 FE crank / 1968/78 330 2V M/D FT uses the 360 FE crank.

Yes it has, which is kinda to be expected.
I'll leave this for you.... I pulled the 352 out of my '65 after sitting for over 13 years. Block had serious ridges (probably why you have broken top rings). I decided that a 390 would be in the future so lets just get this one running for now. Bought a ridge reamer from Sears and dug in (literally). Probably had at least 0.010 - 0.015 taper which is waaay over spec. Disassembled the lifters and cleaned them, dropped in new rings, new rods and main bearings and put it all back together. It ran that way for well over 10 years pushing 4.56 gears and at times pulling a 5th wheeler. Blowby, oh yes, but it ran great.
