No, that's not right. The stock coolers do not have any type of thermostat from the factory. They flow ATF anytime the engine is running.

than why was the trans temp rising after 2 miles. and now the trans temp is staying normal after the cooler was piggybacked to the stock one?

I have to agree with Mark. I rebuilt my trans and added an additional cooler. In short, you have probably tripled your cooling capacity.

i understand the fact the cooling has been doubled or trippled. i just dont understand why it would get so hot untill i used the stock one as a piggy back

Talking

Ok, so you had an aftermarket cooler flying solo and it got hotter? If so, that is weird and I don't understand why it would happen that way but I am 99.9% sure that the stock oil cooler is just a bent up pipe with fins. No magic.
The only reason to put a thermostat in an oil cooler loop would be to heat the trans. I am not aware of any manufacturer that would do that.
I could be wrong, just ask my wife.

I'm not sure y. My tranny guy said if it has a thermostat inside that would make sense. If not it would send trans fluid through the torque converter at a high rate and alow it to start to heat up.

Ford does it, but not on the E4OD or 4R100. The TorqShift trans has an internal thermostat.

That doesn't make any sense. There is no thermostat anywhere in your trans unless someone added one after the truck was built.

I'm sure. That's a 4R100 and it DID NOT have a thermostat.
