Do I need a DP Tuner update...shift kit?

Just had to have my trans redone in the 2001 f250 4x4, I had a local guy who has done work for me before...basically a stock rebuild (all i need) however he added a TransGo Jr shift kit which he feels helps the trans.
This may seem odd, but it seems the truck has a little less "go" then before (tight converter?) and it doesn't coast as freely as before....I also believe I "hear" the pump in the trans moaning a bit.......The trans feels fine, my one thought was when I had the DP burned for this truck, it had a stock trans...Does the TransGo shift kit affect the DP tune and does it need to be addressed? COuld this be part of what I am feeling in this trans? ....Wondering if maybe the line pressures are too high now between the DP & the shift kit. Thanks for any info - Bob

A tighter TC should really make it feel like "you're going somewhere" instead of raising rpms with less forward motion. You also shouldn't be hearing any moaning noises.
My Coast Clutch apply piston seal lip was damaged from the factory and I never felt what it should really be like until I rebuilt the trans and replaced it. You would have to ask your rebuilder if this was the case. You will feel some "drag" when coasting. That is the Coast Clutch doing its job along with the DP tuning holding the TC lockup down to a lower speed.
The DP tuning and TransGo shift pressures will stack and increase line pressure to the clutches. If it feels too firm, then you would need Jody to reburn the chip or make adjustments to the shift kit, if possible.

I agree with Roland, what you may feel as "Less go" might just be that you are still engaged as Roland said. Rpms are higher because you have the higher presures, so your trans is not disnegaging or even changing gears at the same point they were before..

If there are no hard shifts you will be ok. You don't want mushy shifts either. You should feel a good firm shift (not neck snapping). Depending on what the trans builder did will determine if you need the tunes redone for what they did. They may not have changed enough or built it with stock shift pressures. Normally with a transgo kit and front pump mod Jody does need to redo the tunes.

I say try it and let us know.

Hi Diane, The shifting points do not feel the same (they feel worse), and I am fearful what I describe as a "moan" is the fact the TransGo & the DP chip may have line pressure over the top.

If it was over the top the shifts would be extremely hard, so hard you could barely drive the truck. I suggest letting your trans builder know it is moaning. With a drop in power it sounds like the shift solenoids may be sticking or the converter is not working properly.
