Jeff, only thing inside is the head has been P&P and the valves ground. D.U.I. dizzy EFI exhaust with 2.5" out the back into a flowmaster 40, DP offy with the holly 390 cfm 4v carb
Jack, offy is run'n strong from what I know... crane cams was down for a while but is back up and run'n from what I hear

Morning all. Hope the weekend is going well for everyone. Andre, I'm a big six fan from way back, that's just nice. Strong, dependable, etc. Should be a pleasure to drive and sound strong. Jeff
Morning Jeff! Speaking of the "Big Six". Mike and I tore down the six you brought me yesterday. The thing was SWEET inside! Cam looked like brand new, and we pulled a main and rod cap off and the bearings looked perfect!
Mike is comming back today and we'll have the new seals and gaskets on and have the whole thing painted today! I found an Offy intake for it, and it should be here some time this week.
I'll be taking the short bed to the GTG in August so I can show it off!
Still looking for a 390 Holley for it...................
Great news Don. I felt it would be ok, but Murphy is my constant companion, so I had another engine in reserve just in case. Aces, full speed ahead. Can't wait for flame out the stacks, and smoke off the tires. When it's finished you had better drive it first. Cause if your wife does, you'll never get the chance. I don't know if you spend much time on the 6 cyl. threads on not. I'm told that starter changes with the header are ugly. Just a heads up, but you probably already know this. Hope I can make the GTG, probably only a day trip, but I realy would like to meet folks and see so cool iron. Jeff
for the big 6 you can get a shorty starter if the headers are used but dont recall if that solves the issue with removing it without take'n the header/intake off. but solves the heat issue.
If you use EFI exhaust there is no issue really except a notch on the air pump bracket if thats used(I just cut the bracket in half) and the EFI flow is almost the same as headers.... I found new OEM EFI manifolds HERE at $118 to the door.
With the EFI the flange height is the same as the offy ones where with the header they arnt and 1/2 of each washer will need to be ground some to fit proper... I still had to mod the lower washer's on #5&6 as the flange gap is a bit diff on those 2 for me and the washer's for those where a bit to big.
Happy 4th all!!!
Took the old Ranger on a 24 mile 4x4 endurance test yesterday!.......through the woods at 45 degree angle, rocks, trees, mudholes, over fallen trees, cut up and winched out of the way 9 large fallen trees across the trail, endured swarms of mosquitoes, and 6,000ft elevation...............but the 16-18 inch brookies and rainbows at the lake were worth it! Its incredible fishing when you are the first human to see that lake since last summer. The Ranger has a new "battle scar" but it never missed a beat........now I gotta wash it.
