I have not but I think mine need adjustment. If I remember they do not adjust automatically like on a vehicle. If you figure yours out let me know and we can arrange a time for you to do my brakes. haha

Ok Troy & Jay. I have done too many trailer brakes that I do not want to do any more, but I will. I have never done a 5er or TT, but many bobcat, horse & gooseneck trailers. There are no tricks, except. If the brakes are really worn and the wheel cylinder is leaking and everything looks ugly, it is better to buy and replace the entire backer plate and brakes. It will cost a little more, but they will actually work when done.

I don't know the age of your 5ers, but I assume they are newer and probably not drug through mud and snow like a flat or horse trailer.

On many of the dexter axles you can adjust your brakes up by baking up and hitting the brake controller, or at leat it is susspost to, or ther is a rubber plug and slot on the back of the brakes where you put a screwdriver to either back them off for removal or set them up.

When you guys are ready to do them, let me know, it would be fun to sit back in a lawn chair and watch some one else covered in brake dust and grease. A real lovely mix.

If you need parts, brakes or baker plates try Brake & Equipment Wharehouse (612) 378-3141. You will need your axle type and brake size.

Thanks for the moral support Lee and the tip on parts. I will need to read through my stuff and see what it says for brake stuff. My TT is only about 4 years old.

Sorry Jay, I thought you had a 5er, but they are all the same. You probably have dexter axles and 6 blot wheels I would assume. If it is only four years old, you would at the most need shoes. How many miles have you towed your trailer and where? Around here, they will last for a long time. In the mountains that is a different story. I have about 5000 miles on my 5er after one year, and I bet the pads are 50% because of the mountain roads that I drive on out in Wyoming.

Absolutely no idea on the miles but all flatland for the most part. All in MN and WI. They are Dexters. They are probably fine then but I want to give them a peek anyway just for peace of mind.

Hey Lee thanks for the info. I have done brake jobs before but not on camper before. I didnt think it would be to bad and what your saying makes sense. I will let you know when I do it so you can hold that lawn chair down. lol Actually my camper is probably one of the older ones. It is a '98 model but no it hasn't been drug through mud or snow that I know of. Who knows maybe mine are just out of adjustment but I doubt it with my luck!

Hi guys, you could also try Pioneer Rim and Wheel in MPLS they are a Dexter dealer. I also found that it is easiest to replace the whole backing plate and also replace all the bearings along with the races and seals, since you are in there anyway. You may be able to increase the size of the magnet, it just depends on whether the brakes for the next size axle up will still fit your axle. I found that it did on my trailer after I did the brake job.
