It is simply one of the most gratifying pieces of homeowner outdoor power equipment that exists.
It has been a long, long time since I mowed yard with a reel mower, so using a power mower kind of gets taken for granted by me.
But no matter how long it has been since I manually shoveled snow, the memory is still fresh.
Firing up a blower and cutting a swath through several (or many!) inches of the cold white stuff represents a supremacy of man and machine over nature that is tangible to anyone with the resources to purchase or borrow one. The primary auger turning at a relatively slow speed scoops in cubic feet of the stuff and pushes it to the high-speed fan which, depending on the consistency of that particular day's snow, hurtles it at great velocity as a solid stream of frozen misery to distances up to 40 feet. The process reduces what could easily be hours of work to a fraction of the time.
That, my friend, is what a snowblower is.

Snowing hard here now at 5:30 am.
At least 18 inches on the ground. My property is pretty sheltered, but I can see tree limbs moving and snow blowing around. When it is a little windy in my yard, it is blowing hard in the open fields in the overall area.
Sent my little jack russel dog Skippy outside to take a leak. He had to jump/bounce through the snow since it is way over his head. He went out about 10 ft into the yard and turned around and dashed back into the house. Had to take some time to clear an area so he could walk around and take care of his business. It is going to be beautiful when the sun comes up.

Well Kal it's still snowing and sleeting here and I'm in the far southwest corner of VA. As far as I can tell now, we've got about 15+ inches. I have no idea when it's really going to taper off but the winter storm warning is in effect here until 4 PM today.
Good morning, everyone!!!!!!
As I write this, it's 26 degrees, and I've got almost 18" of snow on our deck.
I've had to shovel a path from the back door to the bottom of the steps, so that "Russell" can go 'do his do', 4 times, so far.
(I sure would like to potty train him!!!)
Last night, around 11:00 p.m., when I shoveled a path for him, he decided that he liked the area under the deck, because it's fairly clear under there. (Smart dog!!!)
As I came back to the door, I had to shovel my way back to the door.
At least 1/4" of snow fell in about 7 minutes!!!!!

I don't envy those on the East coast that have gotten pummeled with snow. We have gotten maybe an inch or two of the white fluff but the high winds blew it into drifts. All I can say is, "Enjoy your snow blower!!"
Well. we held right at about 15-16 inches or so. It started raining a little earlier today mixed with sleet. Fortunately it melted enough to clear the roads the rest of the way off. Here are a couple of shots the wife took as we drove up Sand Mountain just outside town.
Some pics from yesterday morning before the snow quit. Snow like this, I park the PSD in the "way back" yard so it isn't in the way in the driveway for plowing. Second is ust one of the snow on the woodpile and the last one is Skippy the jack russel out for a walk scaled against a snow band after an early pass with the snowblower.
