nice to be back home and out of the wind and weather, just spent wed and thurs driving from racine ,wi out to grand island,ne and back to racine and then home .sure wasnt much traffic out there lol.lots of trucks and cars in the ditch.spent wednesday night in york,ne cold as heck with the wind that night.kept waking up thinking some one was rocking the cab,but just the wind.rob ,how were things down on the southern route?
Well, if the old man had changed the trans oil in the tractor like he said he was going to, I wouldn't be looking at ice crystals for hydraulic fluid... Been trying some Sea Foam Trans Tune to see if it won't help out, otherwise I will have to get all that out when it is warmed up sometime. Took over two hours with a space heater to get it thawed out. When I pulled the dipstick, it had a few ice crystals on it. Then I looked down inside the transmission...
It did get up to a whole 15 degrees while I was running it though, so it wasn't too bad, the drive here and back was the only cold part. The deer didn't seem to mind me either, as there were a few off in the field nearby eating, didn't run away at all.
Well I got my driveway shoveled yesterday...yep I said it, shoveled. Laugh it up,..hey...according to my online calculator, I burned 1200 calories doing this! The stuff Mr. Plow left at the bottom of my driveway was the hardest to clear, nearly 4' tall mountain of compacted crap. Bashed the truck right through it though that was fun.
I thought it might be kind of cool to sculpt the giant ridges of snow on either side of my driveway into something resembling the Wall of China...
Realistically, a good snow blower will be better than the blade when it comes to cost vs. amount of use. One of my instructors found one last summer for half price, brand new. They also don't leave piles as much...
if you talking tractor snow blower. you want to have a good supply of shear bolts. those little paddle snow blowers would never do that much snow without lifting it.
I finally got my lane cleared yesterday, most of the drifts were at least knee deep on me... There was enough snow there it actually pulled the tractor down to clear it with my big snow blower...it usually doesn't do that since AI use the 540 rpm hookup. I want to go back to the 1000 rpm so I can really throw it, and it doesn't tend to fill up the blower as fast, just makes the tractor bog easier.

Depends on the unit, the little ones won't cut it, but blades are tough on trucks, and typically not real cheap, but can be had, the off season is the best time, but then you have to get the mounts as well, and run the wiring and such.
I don't tend to shear many bolts on my big blower, it has even spit out a junk blower motor...I have more trouble with the bolts getting loose unless I hit something solid. Piles are no issue, unless there is mud frozen in the bottom... I clear out the piles left from the plows and the old man's loader tractor all the time.
the mount on the plows is what i dont like to much trouble to take off. and the frame would never be the same. seams the pass side is always 1/4inch back
I agree with you guys on the cost analysis for the blade on the truck. Besides, I'm still running my original 4R100 and I don't feel like tempting fate on that note.

No snowblower on this property I don't think because its a gravel driveway, and they used large rocks when they put rock down..not sure how long a snowblower would last suckin those rocks through the blades.
I was kinda thinkin, I'd rather have a plow for this little guy:

Is that a joke about the size of my truck?
