Local paper just had an article about a guy with a Volvo with 2 and a half million miles on it. One engine rebuild that he did as a precautionary measure, according to the article.
I have often wondered what "original" miles means.
When someone says "original miles" the first thing I think is that the vehicle is running on the original power plant and trans. I would like to think that they mean it has the original engine at least. My grandfather also had one of those shovels that was 50 years old but he had to change the handle 5 times and the scoop 3 times. My truck has 209,000 miles on the original engine, tranny and rearend. Although, if you were to look at the odometer you would only see 64,000 miles cause I had to change the cluster a few days ago since the odometer quit working.
There was a guy in the usa today about 10months ago that had over a million miles on his vw. original engine with a new tranny. Now thats getting your moneys worth.
I had a 82 light duty f 250 with a 302 and c6 trans that had 250.000 miles on it when I sold it.It had a timing chain installed at a 125.000 miles. The guy that bought it took it to a half assed shop to have the timing chain replaced and they messed up the gasket between the timing cover and block and it had water in the oil and killed it.If it wasn't for that it would still have been going it used no oil and ran great and always went through inspection. My 86 f 150 with a 302 EFI and AOD has a 185.000 miles on it and still going strong I know its the orig motor but don't know if it has ever had a timing chain installed.
For anyone that cares it wasen't my fault some lady pulled out in a t-type intersection and just stopped. Thus i locked them up and hit her drivers side at about 60. Neither of us had belts on (bad idea) my buddy went into the windshield and the airbag saved me. Both of us are in good spirits and well. Just cuts and bruises.

My 1997 Ford F150 referred to in separate message with 290,000 miles, has original engine, trans, rear end. Just changed one headlight recently. Alternator and battery and brakes were only changes needed during past 10 years.

My 1997 Ford F150 ext cab, automatic, 4.6, just turned over 290,000 miles. Runs great, does not burn oil, and gets 20+ MPH on road trips. Oil and filter has been changed every 3,000 miles since I bought it new. It may fall apart today, but I regularly drive it from Louisiana to Virigina with much confidence.
Good to hear Linemo! You had the best engine/transmission combination for our vintage of trucks. One of the best years for the E4OD and a MAF 351. Or were they still speed density...?
My friend has a 1986 Toyota longbed with the 22R-E and a 5 speed, and it's got 287,000 miles on it. The motor was replaced by a junkyard motor a looong time ago, however, for the past 6 years it was beat to death offroad. It's got around 6-7" of lift on it with 35's, and is doing great.
My Vino (scooter) I drive to work everyday, 118 MPG, great mileage, not real fast but great on gas. I have driven it now for three years, has saved me a ton of money, costs 50 bucks a year for full coverage insurance. I can hall three bags from the grocery store...so it works for real world driving.
I have a 1994 F350 4DR 4X4 with a 351. It has 194K on the odometer. It of course has the rear main seal and oil pan leak. It runs good but the oil pressure is pretty low.
I think that will go to my '85 Ford F-150 4x4. Otherwise known as 'Ol Blue. It was my favorite pickup, it had the 351 W H.O. in it, gas mileage was terrible but I ddin't care. I had that thing through heck an back and so did my dad. Well she had 245,000 on it whne she finally died on cold nite when I rolled her 4 1/2 times. Luckily I wasn't wearin my seat belt an neitehr was my friend and we were thrown from it, cab was touchin the seat.
Had many good memories with that pickup, now that engine is in a street rod.
Also got a "free" helicopter ride that nite to the emergency room.
Had a '90 F250 XLT 7.3L with 385K on her the night she got rolled. She spent the night upside down and in the morning, when we flipped her back on her wheels, she drove the 25 miles back home!
Working on a '96 F350 with 210k miles on her now. Runs great!!! Bet she passes the 385k mark!!
