Some folks HAVE had luck with the K&N, but the stock box is known leaker. I've seen a dusted intake with my own eyes with a K&N CAI installed. I just don't think it's worth the gamble. Maybe you have luck, maybe you don't. Then there's the PITA of cleaning & oiling the thing at the correct intervals...
I'm one that has had luck with a K&N CAI, but like Joe said, it takes meticulous maintenance to keep them in shape. I like the 6637 with "Pete's" cover(homemade though), it's a nice combination and can be customized to fit you and your truck. Plus, the 6637 is the similar filter to what we run in all our farm equipment, which live in a dirty dusty environment, so I figured it should work for my truck.
