I would try and cancel the K&N order. They don't work to well with our PSDs' They let in a little to much dust one of our members engines gave up the ghost and the symptoms pointed to the K&N system that was on his truck when he bought it. For a lot less $$ you can install a 6637. Clay @ Riffraff has a kit that he has put together to install it.

Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit

And while you are at it it is a good time to do the CCV mod also

Be careful with that K&N. It can let a lot of dirt into the engine. There are mods to address the trans as well. I suggest you do that first, so the tuner can set the tunes of for it ahead of time. Aftermarket accumulator valve body or shift kit (I put the TransGo Tugger in mine and love it!).

I wouldn't hesitate one bit about getting a chip from Tony. I got one, even did live tuning with crappy injectors, and he was still able to dyno at 325hp/735tq with it. I've since had new nozzles put on the injectors, and just from the SOTP feel, I imagine I'm around 400hp at the rear wheels (with help from a 38R).

The custom tuners can also adjust your shifts points and how hard or soft the transmission shifts. You will have all sorts of fun driving circles around your buddies with the box tuners once you get a custom one.

Give us a little background about where you are at and what you have for a truck.

I would suggest either the 6637 or the S&B. Both filter great and the S&B has great fit & finish while still be much less than many others on the market, plus they are made in the USA

Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit

Riffraff Diesel: S&B CAI

I bet the guy sells K&N filters. lol.

You need to slow down on this and do a little homework on the mods. The chips/tuners like Superchip, Bully Dog, Edge are all off the shelf tuning. Meaning one chip is good for all the trucks in a certan year range. The custom chips, like I have, DP-TUNER will be tuned to your truck and your truck only. Before you start looking at chips, start with a better intake, such as the 6637. Get yourself a set of gauges, EGT- boost- trans temp. Then open the exhaust up with a MBRP 4" turbo back system. I run the BTS-Valve Body to help same my trans. After you get the basics done, then start deciding on which chip you want.

na he dosent sell anything like that lol he just orders parts and works on everyones truck around here. he aint a dealer of anything. and im in no rush i talked to my step dad and he say intake should be here next week..... so i guess ill just run a K&N for now. exhaust is next like i said before it should be on in a month. 4 in down pipe and 4 inch back to the bed with 7 in stacks. ive been doin "research" if thats what u wana call it and it aint like im slapping a chip on my truck rite now as it is. i aint dumb like these other fools who blow up there stuff left and right. and when it does get put on i aint gona run and extreamly high hp tune. 70 at the MAX!! till i do other work to my trans like u said. i do want gauges but thats just goin to have to wait. i aint made of money haha im only 17 go to school half day work the other half all week and do lil junk on the weekend for pocket money i pay for everything myself and i just have enought to get intake exhaust n chip... the basics everything else will fall into place as the money comes in

Well with a user name like Big Bucks, you can see how we were confused

Do us and yourself a favor. Do a search here in the 7.3 section about K&N filters. The short story is the increased air flow comes at the sacrifice of filtration. If you do enough reading you'll see stories about dusted turbos and in some case dusted engines caused by the K&N. This issue becomes more severe on a chipped truck since the boost pressures become elevated, which lets more dirt through the filter. FYI dusted means ruined, time to buy a new one.

Go look at any truck you know of with a K&N filter. Take the filter off, or remove the lid off the filter and inspect the tube going from the filter back to the turbo. If you can see ANY dust inside that tube, or if you can wipe your finger inside the tube and leave a clean steak, don't put that thing on your truck.

If you find dirt inside an intake tube let us know. We'll find some pictures of a dusted turbo wheel for you so you can check those trucks out to see if they've got any damage to their wheels. Sure would be interesting if you showed your step dad that his truck had a dusted turbo from that filter, wouldn't it?

Alot of people also think superchips is the best chip out their to. There is alot of uneducated people out their. Listen to us we'll have you leaving them in the dust. BTW you could sell the K&N on CL for a pretty good price or just have him return it.

Where about in Maryland do you live? We have quite a few on this forum from there that I am sure would be willing to let you see how much better a custom chip vs an off the shelf tuner is.

from the eastern shore. and yea ima end up getting a custom chip over off the shelf. i like the tunes WAY better since i get what i want not what they sell me u kno? and yall really seem to like them. and i checked out that intake yesterday... no dust. could it be that dryer places tend to have this happen more? or places with more dust in the air? im between the ocean and a bay with nothing but marsh land in between so it dosent stay dry here long. dont kno if that means anything lol but o well

Some folks HAVE had luck with the K&N, but the stock box is known leaker. I've seen a dusted intake with my own eyes with a K&N CAI installed. I just don't think it's worth the gamble. Maybe you have luck, maybe you don't. Then there's the PITA of cleaning & oiling the thing at the correct intervals...
