Laptop got a very bad virus, and in order to keep it from infecting my other computers in the house, I took it offline.
My desktop needed to be overhauled, so it was taken offline, taken apart, cleaned and put back together.

I had another laptop in the house that I could have used, but I was also working a lot, so I never got around to getting onto FTE. Or any other sites for that, hell, I had over 200 emails that I "ignored" supposedly

"Before you whine, consider where you'd be if I were to intentionally ignore you..."

lol

I had to deal with a bunch of viruses last week, there was a backdoor trojan called "AhnRpta" which I managed to get rid of manually. I ran a virus scan (using Avast) and got rid of a bunch of other viruses. Finally I installed Ubuntu Linux (kinda just for the heck of it) and managed to delete another virus. It couldn't do anything about it either, since I installed Ubuntu on my other hard drive, on an entirely different file system (ext3, virus was on NTFS).

I'm keeping Ubuntu since I can dual-boot it and XP Pro. It's pretty snappy, though it's nowhere near as good for multi-tasking as XP Pro is.

Oh and I just upgraded the CPU fan in my computer. It's actually supposed to have one of those Dell-specific fans and shrouds, but I've zip-tied a 120mm Rosewill case fan in its place and modified a Dell fan shroud to work. The fan has blue LEDs and moves about 86CFM at max speed.

...between that fan and the two 80mm matching fans I have in the front, the side panel on my case is actually cold to the touch. And it's about 70 in here.

You know what? Listening to you guys talk about this computer stuff makes me feel a connection with the guy standing at the side of the road with his hood up looking in there like suddenly something is going to jump out at him and reveal the problem when he has NO clue....
You guys are making me feel old and stupid.... Hmmmmm.. all of a sudden my shoe seems to fit better....
Oh- something truck related. There was a set of 1980 slider door locks (in blue no less, my int. color) up for bid on Ebay today. I got busy and forgot about them and the auction ended. They went for $9.95 + shipping. I have some, but it would have been nice to have a spare set and I probably could have nailed them for around $20. Yet another reason why work sucks!

Sorry doug, that wasn't my intention when I posted yesterday.

In Ubuntu, I get lag with only a few Firefox tabs and my IM program. It's just as fast as XP Pro when nothing's running, but it just seems to lag when I'm trying to do stuff.

It's on a 2.4GHz Celeron with 1.2GB RAM, btw.

Well I just made quick run to the local convienience store. The road there is almost dead true west. I saw something in the sky that looked like a comet and it was pretty good sized. I went in the store and asked everybody in there (maybe 5 or 6 people) if they knew what was up in the sky. Of course I got some blank stares and looking at some -you could almost see the wheels turning....thinking OMG where did this nut come from? HEY- I didn't say the sky was falling, just is anyone in here up to date as to what that is?
I figured either a comet or the space shuttle and even suggested the same to these fools. I haven't been keeping up with the news much lately, but IIRC, the space shuttle was plauged with some problems recently delaying it's launch several times.
Anyway- when I left the store, I looked back to the west and the object was MUCH smaller. I figure it was indeed the space shuttle. Anybody want to confirm?
BTW -as slow as I type- it's prolly already too late, but you west coasters may want to peek outside right now.
