@greyghost I was in Temple, so I couldn't....I was in a Ford church van though. :P The guy who runs the place here is a real abrasive fellow, I've never heard anyone say nice things about him.
@doug For sure. In the past I've been burned by their prices.
lol. Paid $60 for a single 80-86 taillight lens, was quoted a price of $50 for a window crank....for that much, that crank better come with a whole new door. (In comparison, Autozone charges $6 for one that looks just like it...)
But seriously though, it is a shame that it burnt down. I bet alot of people are out of a job.
In other news, I found out that a later-model Ford Club Wagon loaded with church youth can't time travel. We could only make it to 75mph...
Yep - I got mine from O'Rielly's in the Help section. I'm really thankful for Ebay though. I got both tailights for about $14, NOS Ford OEM. Got a NOS grille for $45, there's no telling what the dealer price would be for it. As Number Dummy once pointed out though, the crooks at the dealerships often charged double or more what Fords price was supposed to be.
Yea. I don't blame the guys that work (or worked... ) at the one here for the prices though. I would blame that on the owner...
I got both my 87-96 lenses from O'Reillys too, I think....if I recall, they were like $20 each. Look the same as the OEM versions as far as I can tell.
...something about a man in a bra just seems to exude a high level of trust in the security area. Maybe something to do with J.Edgar Hoover, IDK.
Bwahahahahahaha!!!
I've gotten enough comments (at least half a dozen so far) on the bra thing that
I'll explain the story behind that one of these days but I need to find some more
pictures, first.
I consider it the proverbial lampshade-on-the-head-type of pic but some people
read WAY too much into it sometimes!
I'll probably even ask Scott to modify my text in my Mug Shots contribution.
I'm thinking about getting a pair of these clear parking light lenses sometime in the future...price isn't too bad, and it'd look sharp with a set of LED bulbs or some of those iridescent blue bulbs you see at auto stores.
Yes, I never 'officially' got around to that. I kinda afro engineered something to make it work. and then it failed once it got cold.
soooooooo..... back to ground Zero.
Is it leaking somewhere along the metal line, or is it at the fittings? If it's some part of the line, just get some rubber hose rated for the pressure and temperature range (I'd think power steering low-pressure hose would work fine, if you can get it in the right size), and that should get you back on the road til you can replace the whole line.
Speaking of transmissions, I'm giving serious thought to doing an auto-to-manual conversion sometime next year. I'm thinking either a ZF, a T18, or a M50D. I'd like to be able to do about 70 on the highway without my foot through the floorboard.
But first....I gotta rebuild the carb, get the motor running right, replace the radius arm donuts and other various rubber components, replace the ball joints....

That's funny, they're standard on the 80 and I don't like the way they look. I'm going to amber lenses. I think the reason I don't like them is the amber bulb, though. If you are looking at it from an angle, you see a mix of amber and clear. It looks like a faded amber lens. I thought that's what they were at first until I found out that's what's on them. They might look good with blue bulbs, if you don't get in trouble with DPS.
I'm talking about those new crystal-clear ones. For your truck, you could get some of those "chromed" bulbs, and that would get rid of the faded look. I think they come in amber too, but they only appear that way when lit.
I was planning to use either those neat blueish-iridescent bulbs that glow amber when lit, or some amber LEDs. If I go the LED route I'll have to either buy an LED-specific flasher or put some load equalizers in-line.
I want to add neat things like that to my truck, but I don't want to end up making it look corny or ricey. I think those clear lenses will look good though. I'm hoping to eventually do a sort of resto-mod to it, restoring it to pretty much factory specs, but also have a few improvements too.
And last night I had an idea....I started contemplating changing a few wires around at the taillights and have it where the backup lights are made into the turn signals....but then I started thinking about how I'd probably end up with them working as brake lights too....darn it. -_-
