I'm the same way. I prefer non-computerized vehicles, and mine's about as plain jane as they come. Someone removed all the emissions stuff before I got it. No smog pumps, no EGR, no cats, nothing. Ignition is DuraSpark, but that's about it as far as electronic controls.
I think to get my choke working, all I need to do is adjust it by rotating it to the right position, and run a wire for power. I wouldn't mind having my truck warm itself up automatically, if I can get the choke working.
with manual you got no vacuum parafanallia, or sensors or a host of little bells and whistles. for instance, our work van has power windows...which is great. now the driver window quit working, so at mcdonalds you have to open your door to order or get your food. is it that hard to crank a window down? rant over!
The factory automatic choke is a pretty simple animal, really not a lot of bells and whistles to it. One wire and a simple to adjust mechanism that is basically a coil spring that you adjust tension on and the electrical signal heats up causing expansion of the spring - opening the choke. Easier to fix than running a new cable and **** and converting the carb.
Manual chokes are a PITA IMHO and I'm glad the last time I had to use on was on a '56 effie.
darrell- I'm on the verge of joining you on a rant against technology....
Earlier in the week, the old cell phone went out. Took 2 trips to 2 different T-Mobiles to get it sorted out- (under warranty but 1st one gave me crap and wanted me to buy a new phone!).
Then yesterday the cable box in the living room went out. This will make the 3rd box since I went to new ones a month ago. 1 in the bedroom and this will be the second on the big TV.
Last night, the wireless alarm sensor on my tool shed went on the fritz. I thought I had it fixed until a little while ago when I had to get a Tech on the line and replace the battery and make a few adjustments.
The cable Tech isn't scheduled until the game starts tomorrow, so I don't know if I'll catch the game on it or not. I stll haven't been able to see a Cowboys game on that 60" HD screen since I got it.
And this POS computer.... keeps cutting off on me, locking up and running slower than a slug through mollasses.... errrr,,, rant over....
i got a chuckle out of all that....my boss threw our printer in the dumpster, and girlfriend just found out that ink for her new printer actually costs more than the printer did,so she is threatening to make it 2 printers in the dumpster!
Yep- Had an old ink jet printer, the ink was $30 each for black and color.
A new Cannon Scanner/Copier/ Photo/ Printer was $70. The refills for it were $15 each. Needless to say, I coughed up the extra $10 and the old inkjet found the curb.
Well, the cable Tech was supposed to come between 3:00 and 5:00pm today. At 3:15 I walked by the cable box in the living room and noticed it had the time displayed. I clicked the remote and dang if it didn't fire right up. I was afraid it might cut out at any minute, so I waited an hour before calling the cable co. They told me the Tech had been there at 3:17. Weird. I was like 5' from the front door. Never heard the doorbell or a knock.
Anyway- the good news was I got to watch pretty much the whole game in big screen HD! Yah!
There is a huge thunderstorm moving through the area and 20 minutes ago the power went out for about 10 seconds. Guess what? You got it, the dad-gum POS is back on the fritz again!
Anyway- No biggie, I can take the box to the store tomorrow and exchange it if it's still above water. We're under a flash flood watch until 7:00 PM tomorrow and it's raining buckets right now.

AH- You haven't seen some of my posts. I've been known to aggravate members to the edge of violence. Therefore, I prefer to remain in the witless protection program, and only reveal my true location sporadically.
However, I feel I can trust you- something about a man in a bra just seems to lend itself to credibility in the security area, maybe has something to do with J. Edgar Hoover, IDK... So just for you- I'm on the outskirts of Ft. Worth Texas.

My local Ford dealership burnt down this evening....don't really know what to say. A member of my church's youth group mentioned it to me, and sure enough, it was true. Had fire trucks from two or three other towns there putting out the fire.
Something I noticed was that a Groesbeck fire truck turned onto the main street as I was at a red light, and it sounded like it had some beast of an engine in it.....the sound from it shook the vehicle I was in. I'd be willing to bet it was a Detroit....
my local ford dealer is two doors down, chevy is 2 doors in the other direction. all i have ever bought from the ford dealer is a coffee cup. applied for a job, once
