oh lol and for what its worth i really appreciate the help with this project...
im only 15 and am doing this whole project by my self,, besides the 5 min advice on this project from my dad everything on the truck has been done by just me.. and this web sight..
ugh tuff job!!!
Although I did my own "work" on my truck when I was 15 I didn't start doing any real fabrication until I was 19 or 20 maybe. Now I'm 29 and most of this stuff is pretty easy. Both to design and build. It just ALWAYS takes longer than I plan!!!!
well it turns out his version of a big wheeler is a bare 4x4 frame,, and a 2 wheel drive truck.. yea
.. well i saw some pics of the truck from a few years back when it real nice..but i took his word for it and told him to bring it over and id buy it..well he said that the 2wd was really strait except the bed that got hit by a tree,,,hm ok guess thats doable.....
but there was more then he said that the frame needs some work to
ughh,,, ok fine i guess ill see what i can do

thats the strait truck......... hmmmmmmm

thats the frame that just needs a little work

but its getting there,, its been 3 long months
Oh well - you will learn a TON with this project!!!!

before

during

here is a crapy cell phone pic of it after the dash and floor was painted,, bad glare on the floor,, its actually high gloss black on the floor that turned out great,

cab of the 2wd

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Started with a guy coming to the shop to buy some tires/wheels off me that I had on craigslist. I am asking $125 - he offers $40. I politely said no effin way and closed the shop door to go to work.
Then I started messing with my new GPS I bought off eBay. Well... wouldn't ya know it won't turn on. I messed with it for an hour and hooked it up to 3 different batteries to make sure it was getting power. Yeah - nothing
And half way through the auction the guy says he would accept PayPal anymore and only cashier's checks. Gonna be fun getting my large chunk of change back
Ok - so then I got to work. I drilled more holes (what else do I ever do??) and then I got to weld. Welding usually mellows me out and puts me in a good mood and tonight was no different luckily

So here are the end plates or spring mounts

some pretty beads

Got one side all welded up

This is how they will go together

That was all I got done tonight. I had to leave early so I could go to Kinkos to spend an hour making copies of crap to dispute some BS I found on my credit report.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit better. And with that - I'm off to bed
I was just wondering,, would you happen to have a picture of your templet used for your spring hanger tabs,,?? or maybe a cad print out??,, i like the design you came up with and wouldnt mind cloning
haha!
When I was 1st designing this thing I just measured the OD of the stock spring end. Then when I picked up some superduty springs for a buddy recently I noticed just how much larger the spring eyes were. And the military wrap on top of that makes them HUGE. Well, I went back and adjusted my design as best I could to accommodate a larger spring eye - but since I was already 1/2 way done with this thing I couldn't change it too much.
I think there is some articulation to be found here. A wider hanger will prevent the soring from striking the hanger when it is all twisted up. I could probably gain another inch in each direction of my hangers were slightly wider. Under mad articulation, my leafs hit the hangers now. YOu also know of the bushing problems I have been having with the vulcanized rubber ones, so maybe you had this in mind when you were in the design mode.
I am not "normal" as I am not really building any "lift" into my spring hangers. Most people doing this do so to gain some lift. I moved my spring mount holes down only 1" from stock, which should only net a tiny "lift". Even then I only did so to gain a little more clearance between the steering box and tire at full bump.
I like my truck at pretty much the stock ride height and therefore I had never really "planned" to run the superduty leafs (hanging on to the hope that my stockers will work fine with the cummins). So no, I didn't really plan for the SD stuff.
I made the spring mounts the stock 3.5" wide. I don't need NEAR the flex you require, so if I end up with the SD stuff the delrin should be good enough for me.
Thought that I would mention this since your posts have been getting hits like crazy.
If the heigth requires some adjustment, this is a great place to make such adjustments. One does have to compensate for caster changes when any change to the hanger is made. Shackle length adjustments should be considered, actually have to be made in order to retain reasonable caster angles.

"Search", assuming that the function gets used, lol.
