Yeah, I read your "must haves" and I see you are quite fond of it. I keep saying one day... but for now I am happy to finally have a mig welder (been arc welding for about 20 years)
I did like your list, and if you say the porta band is THAT handy, I am going to look into getting one someday.

I think they are worth it, but I got mine as a college graduation present from my dad. I was too cheap to buy one - hahah. Now that I know how handy they are I couldn't live without it. BUT - I spend a lot more time playing with metal than most people do, so it may be hard to justify the price for others.

Also - check for them on craigslist and eBay. I see them on both (craiglist has them a lot less often) for about $125 or so

progress!!
Well I got tired of looking for a welder so I changed my plans a little. I hauled the frame over to a friends house so i could use his mig welder. loading it on the trailer was kinda interesting.. in a rain storm with 45 mph coast wind.. on a hay trailer that sits pretty high with only a handy man jack..(8n broke down sad day)
just about lost a finger getting it on but 2 hours later it was on the road. should have taken a pic.. 05 dodge ram mega cab ( the mega buss) pulling a highboy. hehe
she will be done by next weekend.. hopefully i can get everything else ordered and my shackles made

need some bling.

Blue Torch FabWorks, Inc.
"Bird" Gusset

my d rings are allready welded on and its all squared up under the truck. just need to finish the back half of it now grind it all clean and paint.

Cool deal - glad you got to keep your finger

I just got the final pieces CNC plasma cut from my buddy this past weekend. He had been busy for a while - so I waited a month or more and it figures - when he has time to cut them - I won't have time to weld them on for a bit... I've gotta finish cutting up/parting out this bronco so I can get back to work on these

Back from the dead.

I wrapped up cutting up the bronco the other night so I got back to work on this.

Got all the holes drilled last night and got both sides tacked on.

I'm taking the cross member off tonight so I can finish welding the whole thing and do the final painting.

Took long enough!!!!!

I didn't get as much done as I wanted last night because a buddy came over to the shop and we spent more time fartin around and talking - but I did lay some beads down.

Thanks for the compliment.

And just so you know - don't count out suspension fab work just because you have a 2wd.

My 74 Supercab 2wd is next on the chopping block and it will get PLENTY of fancy fab work

Getting closer to finish it. It frustrates me that it is taking this long to wrap something simple - but life keeps getting in the way...

Not much got done this weekend as I had to help my buddy lay a patio all day saturday and then I cleaned out grandma's yard all day sunday.

I did get a little bit in. More to come tonight.

A little welding

One side painted

Started the final pair of shackles while the paint dried

Got the other set of front shackles welded up and tonight they'll get painted.

I also got the final weld layed on that cross member and it got painted.

Now all I need is my d60 and I can put the truck together and fire this bad boy up!

This was a hard thread to find. Its been un active for so long I thought I wasn't going t find it.
Well Ive been getting more and more done on my front cross member. and now Im about a day away from finishing. The pictures are low quality as they were taken from my phone but you can get some idea of my progress.

Yea I sure like them to, they add just the right touch. hehe. I could have made these on a friends CNC plasma machine but I didnt really have the patients
I bought them from these guys.

"Bird" Gusset

Ive always been happy with there stuff. the nice thing about these gussets is there is enough material around the middle finger to cut and grind to fit your needs, just in case you dont have exactly a 90 degree angle. Plus for that price its worth it. 5 days later and they were welded on.

Ill get some better pictures of the hanger soon. But Im happy to say its finally almost done
