Looking food Dave. You 3rd pics reminded me of something though...
Just a hint for you MIG welders out there. A little "Pam" cooking spray on the area surrounding where you are going to weld will keep the spatter from sticking.
Yes Pam High Heat is always my choice. Found alot of it at Big Lots and bought a case. At work I use Spatter Spatter. But at $10 a can Pam at 97 cents is fine with me.
Shielding gas only helps the flame and flow, and not to get porosity. Any mig will cause spatter as you are forcing wire into the weld. The Pam or Spatter Spray won't let the spatter fuse to the metal. Using Pam or Spatter Spray will leave you just wiping away the spatter beads with a towel.
Tig welding leaves no spatter as you the welder are feeding the rod by hand and not forcing it into the weld. At least if you do it right.
Keep your eyes peeled on craigslist, etc. I've sole complete, older TIG machines for as little as $400. That one was an old airco that needed a bottle and that's pretty much it.
I've got like $1200 in my TIG when done. While not cheap - it's not a ton compared to the $4k or whatever they get for the new machines now. And for how much I use it...
Speaking of using it...
I started the shackles last night. They technically can qualify as "front spring hangers" and they are needed due to lowering the front leaf mounts, so I'll post the build here (as well as in my build thread of course)
Starting of the shackles
Ends turned down and tubes cut and partially notched
Tacked and clamped to the table to prevent warping
any body wana sell me a welder?
I think it would be nice if the starter of this thread (me) made some progress..
for what its worth ive been staying busy out back of the truck.. but it pisses me off seeing it just sit there..... errrrrr
Those tube shackles are awesome! I think I may need to modify the ones I built with some half tube on them. I don't know if I can cut that straight though.
