Swapping out the frame and making it 2wd. I'm going to lower it as much as I can, but still want to keep some fat tires on it.
Really? I thought you were going to put a V8 in it.
I'm assuming the 300 is carb'd. What all are you going to do to it? What gear ratio? You said you want to make a rat rod out of it. Are you more interested in 1/4 mile times or what?
I was going to say it would be cool if you put a hot rod 6 in it.
I'm only interested in doing it as cheap as possible and could care less about how fast it goes or how shiny it is.
300 six, old non emmissions YF carb, EFI manifolds and a manual trans.
I'm going to weld up a chain link or rebar steering wheel and shift arm with an old Hurst shifter, some low back bucket seats and a couple old school gages.
It'll be a daily driver that should be pretty decent on gas and something I can drive and not worry about, a complete 180 from my F250.
I have a couple different threads already and will most likely consolidate them into one build thread so everything is in one place.
Rat rod!!! I thought you were throwing 1 ton axles under that thing with those 37" XTL's you just got. Let me guess, you just dont want to take the 37's off your F-250 now.
I've parted off steel rims in a lathe at different times to widen or narrow for customers, then welded them up again. It would save specially making a machine to do it - unless you intend doing them in numbers
My cousin has an '87 F-150 with those wheels that are 8" wide. They are original, and it says 15x8 on the door jam sticker as well. That is the only set of 8" wheels I've seen, though. They must be pretty rare. If anyone out there could find a set, I'm sure it would be you!
Thanks for the heads up on the 8" width.
I went to another place today and grabbed two more but 8" wide this time. I'm going to put the 8's in the rear and the 7's up front.
BTW: Em, I found one black slider for you today for your door lock. The other one was already gone. I'll keep an eye out for you though. I'm heading to another place in a few minutes after I have another cup of coffee and warm up.
Dang it's cool out there today. But, good "shopping" weather!

I HATE you. Here I am stuck in school, doing absolutely nothing(it's getting close to the end of the school year)while you're out shopping in a junkyard in cool weather. That is not fair at all.
Grabbed some EFI exhaust manifolds off of a 92-96 truck that had the complete drive train in the bed. I was wanting to get a set of these but didn't want the hassle of taking all of the intake and junk off of a motor while leaning over the fender.
Somebody made it real easy for me:
Also grabbed a real nice Edelbrock Performer 351W intake manifold off of another truck while I was there. I already have one on my truck, but couldn't let this thing go to waste (or someone else!). I started to clean it up with a wire brush:
Here is a pic of the 15 X 8 inch wheels that I grabbed earlier in the day. The girl I know at the gate only charged me $5.00 each. I don't know if you can tell of not, but there is a real easy way to identify an 8" wheel compared to the 7" wheel.
Notice the extra step near the valve stem? On a 7" wide wheel, this step is flush with the spokes. This particular wheel was on the rear tire carrier and was used as a spare. It was never on the ground and was in really nice condition. Too bad the 31" tire was all dry rotted that was on it because it looked like new:
UGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why cant i find good deals like this. im always in the yard. if i find something even halfway decent they try to screw me on cost. gosh. i hate my local yards.
