Vent windows

I did get spare parts this week, just wanted to re-enforce the proper install as posted by Julie.

In hind sight I wouldn't throw any thing away again, these parts are harder and harder to come by. I don't how I would have managed to install vent windows if I hadn't found the frames at a wrecker.

Always someone looking for a rare piece to complete their project.

Tom

Yours had a washer between the window stop and the frame in the upper half. Mine had one on both sides of the frame - that's the "Extra" washer I called out in Post #16 above.

However oddly, the body parts catalogue only calls out one of the two. On yours it was assembled above the frame, I reassembled mine below the frame to act as a bushing for the spring pressure and deleted the additional washer - works very smoothly.

Glass installed

I installed glass into vent frames today; glass was slightly less deep as original so I used 3M adhesive moderately to ensure glass would not shift. the plywood jig was like a spare set of hands.

Thanks

Thanks Julie; every now and then I get an Idea I can use.

It did make the install easier.

I got the frames completed but won't get to install them into the doors for a week; work getting in the way once again !

Then in progression downward, there is a slip (thin and wide) washer, the spring, another slip wahers, then a regular cut washer and a castleated locking nut.

I'm not sure what the kits include, but in the drawings of the various vent windows the pieces and th enumber of pieces are different. I'll do a little more research and get back to you. Mine are currently out of the truck so I can get some good photo's for you as well.

The only difference between the 48-50 and 51/52 vent windows is the 51/52 has a locking button on the handle. These can be easily changed out and both styles (of handles) are available after market.

About once every month the pivot bolts show up on e-bay. Vent windows themselves show up there about once every three months.

I'd check on e-bay and look at guys who are selling lots of parts from a newly acquired parts truck. They may have a set but not have them listed.

There are two guys with trucks parting out selling stuff at the moment. One here in San Diego - it's a 51/2 panel I believe, and the other is a 48-50 in Kingman Ca. He parts out lots of these trucks. He has a couple hoods and some doors up for sale currently.

You may want to send a PM to "51 PanelMan" to ask if he has any at the moment.
