I broke a manifold bolt off of mine when I tore it apart too. I was able to get it out by drilling the stud out in stages......then I ended up just getting new heads because my machine shop wasn't well tooled to rebuild my old ones and speed was more important than cost.
Actualy the engine came with the broke off bolt no extra charge. It only took 15 minutes to get it out including finding some one who had ez-outs I could barow. 1/8" drill bit went threw it like butter then ran my 1/4 threw sprayed in some liquid wrench smaked it with a flat puch put the easy out in and poped it right out.
It's always something. I work on this stuff at about the same speed you do. I just plug away at it until it's done. It's not like I'm ripping somebody off that's paying me by the hour.
Funny thing is i do this for a living. For some reason it takes me alot longer when its my vehicle. I just get too relaxed and slow way down.
When me and my Dad rebuilt my 302, we broke off a headbolt, and it took 12 hours of drilling to get that stupid thing out.
Worst one i've ever had was on a DT 466 one of the guys on swing broke off a ac compressor bolt I drilled it and tryd to pull it with an easy out it felt like the ez out was guna break so I stopped the guy i barowed the ez out from decides its his ez out so it doesn't mater if he breaks it befor i could stop him he's got it snaped off in there. Ended up standing on a drill while anothe guy ran it untill we got throuhg it and stuck a helicoil in. That was a long day.
I've gotten pretty good at the broken bolt game i can usealy drill them dead center and if they wont come out drill them till just befor the threads and run a tap threw.
well how much have you got done? im glad you found an engine and your getting to keep your truck, you sure do have a nice truck man
Thanks.
I didn't get much done today I still have to put the oil cooler and turbo on but that will give me something to do untill my storage unit opens so i can go get my boost valve the retard at the trans shop swore i could put in from undrnieth, and pull my torque converter and pump and stick it in.

I got the engine set in there but i still need to move it back acouple inches. We don't realy have the equipment to hold the engine at the right angle so its been a fight the whole way at. The engine is fully asembled i just need to get it in the rest of the way and bolt it up and hooke up the wirring and hoses i should have it running tomarow, knock on wood.
I got it painted cobalt blue because that was the only collor paint we had laying around left over from a lowes trailer. I'm gunna pretend its ford blue.
I think i'm going to have to pull the starter off tho get it all the way in.
Its imbarressing how much this thing s kicking my hiney.
I was definately impressed with how well my pintal hitch is mounter, since it is only mounted in a fasion to protect my bumper in a collision. to move my truck to where i was working I put the sling on the fork lift and ran the cains to my hitch and it actualy held the back end off the ground with my old 7.3 sitting in the bed by the tailgate. Then i straped the steering wheel in place with the seat belt and teared the truck from the back with the fork lift. I take some pictures of how the hitch is mounted so you huys can see how amazing it is that it held.
