On another note, did you take the job you had the interview for last weekend?
According to the complaints, the school will ignore you and not call you back until a deadline is passed and then they try and charge you for attending classes.

I am going to call and call and call and call and leave messages and call until my advisor calls me back. I have a fire under my *** now.

I haven't heard back on that job yet Cris. It was last Tuesday that I interviewed. If they offer it to me, I will accept it.

Man Brendan, hate to hear things like that. Thoughts from mine and ours to you and yours.

At least you got the funding stopped Lisa. That could have been bad and I know I would be P!55ED!

You could always drive over there too Lisa.

I came across a school like that up here too. I got suckered in though, and about halfway through I couldnt continue anymore. They got about 6 grand from me, which sucked, and I didnt even "graduate". They actually did the classes so they still will count if I want to take something else, which is kinda lucky.

If I must go to a restaraunt I wait til I'm in NC they are still a free state
I just find it ironic that VA passed this bill with PMUSA HQed here and is considereing a 60 cent per pack tax hike on cigs. Ya just never know which direction VA is goin with stuff.

Well I can only hope that happens here. With shootings in Taco Bell parking lots I doubt many people will be goin out regardless!

I actually like the no smoking in restaurants and bars. When those laws came into effect here alot of people cried that their business's where going to get shut down and slow down and whatnot, but that never happened. The smokers just smoke outside now (always RIGHT next to the damn doors too!) and everything is peachy.

Well except now they implemented a law where smokers cant stand right next to the doorway, cause they were starting to block up entrances, and exits quite abit.

Smokers will still eat, and drink, and go places they cant smoke, it benefits us non smokers, people that own the establishment(smoke smell=disgusting), and even the smokers (ive heard of people quitting and slowing down, because they were getting fed up of always going outside).
Im sure people will slowdown and possibly quit. I just dont see my closest friends doing it though! I swear they will find a way to smoke in a hurricane!

Ok so I have a story for all of you.

Most of you are aware that I am going to go back to school, get my Masters. Well, I was getting ready to start classes on Wednesday, but getting irritated because 1) I still have no books and 2) I can't get anyone to call me back.

So I start doing research on the school, which in reality is something I should have done thoroughly before I enrolled. However, the only reason I was initially became interested was because this particular school, Kaplan, was the only school to offer the Fast Track program for people interested in pursing a career in teaching. So I started talking to an advisor, got enrolled, and I was "informed" that the Fast Track program was not being offered this term because of lack of interest in the program. So, here I am en-route for the Masters program with this school. No one is calling me back, I can't get any questions answered.

What I found in my research of the school was horrifying. Absolutely, utterly horrifying. Check this out: Ripoff Report Search Results: Kaplan University!

The school has complains against them with the BBB, and students and professors are getting together to file a class action lawsuit against Kaplan for various reasons. The #1 complaint is that the school steals money, both from students and from the U.S. Dept. of Education.

I don't want anything to do with an institution that has that kind of track record. I had such a pleasant experience with my undergrad at Colorado State, I didn't even think to look into this kind of stuff. I have stopped my loans from going through my lender, and I have taken the school code off my FAFSA, they cannot touch my funding. I sent out emails last night and I have left a message with my "advisor" to see if I can get unenrolled today. I have a feeling I am in for a fight.

In other news, I am going to enroll myself in the Graduate School at the University of Iowa for the summer term, they have a very good education program. Hopefully I qualify for in-state tuition.
Good idea preventing that money faucet from being tapped! Dont worry, people make mistakes. You were just eager to get back to school!

Sheldon, you know they make like these diaper pad things they can wear, so she can come in the house. poor thing probably thinks she's in trouble.

How can you be sure she won't grab the attention of nearby male dogs? If so, you might get some pups on your hands.

That might be a great idea, if you have the time. Go there with a letter stating that you are withdrawing from classes, and have your advisor or someone official accept it and sign a receipt. In case they won't sign a receipt, have your phone on voice recording and get an audio record of them refusing it. Let that end up in court....

Thats a great idea, but it won't work. Kaplan is HQ'd in Florida. They have an office in Dubuque, but no one except my admissions advisor can un-enroll me.

She has yet to call me back, so I am going to overnight a certified letter outlining my desires to unenroll...in case they try and stick me with something, I have proof that I requested withdrawal before classes started.

Sandi actually found some of those diapers for dogs, but our dog would just chew it. She is an outside dog, so she does stay outside most of the time anyways, but im a sucker and let her in haha.

The closest male dog is a mile or two away, and we keep any eye out for her when we are home. When we arent home she goes into her outside kennel. Its about the best we can do.

I was thinking about getting her fixed before she got her first heat cycle, but I did some reading and decided to wait till after, its supposed to be easier on them. Somehow i didnt catch the part where a dog goes into heat for 3-4 WEEKS!! D'oh!

On edit: I wouldnt mind pups, but im the kinda guy that would want to keep them all, Sandi would kill me, and I would end up living with a bunch of dogs and myself haha.

Same here, Brendan -- he'll be in our thoughts & prayers. Good mojo too, if you will. LOL....

Lisa, I hope that works out for you. It's hard to believe those folks are still in operation considering what you found out. That's NUTS!! Good mojo your way, too.

I'm still babying my back today -- we're about to head out and do a little testing this afternoon, then kick it into high gear tomorrow & Wednesday...

Talk to y'all later....
