Im back from the dig allready, except I didnt even dig, whew! I got the septic guy to pump the tank, and unfreeze a line that froze due to the float sticking, hardwired the pump to the breaker, and voila, up and working again!

SWEET! Glad it worked out to be easy for you! Should that frozen line be wrapped in heat tape or something? You know, plug it in in cold weather like we do for our trucks?
Well its a liquid pump out line, about 250 feet long, so theres not really a way to heat tape it!
Not sure if anyone is familiar with septic systems, but its one of those systems that has a septic tank, and the fluids just get pumped out into the field aways away from the yard.
The line goes 9 feet underground, then at the very end it slopes to 8 feet, then 7, then 5, then we have a stack coming out of the ground.
The stack is a crappy idea (which we didnt know at the time) that has a 90 degree fitting at the bottom, and thats where it freezes up.
Next spring Im gonna have to dig that stack up, attach a piece of poly pipe and have it come at a 45 out of the ground, so nothing freezes.
This was the first septic system I have installed, so it comes with a learning curve. Since I installed it myself, Im still at least 10 grand ahead of the game (with septic and water) So im allowed a few screwups haha.
Its in the code that you HAVE to put a 90 there!! The fella that we got to pump us out today said he has been fighting with the health authority to get those 90's and those stacks banned, due to just this.
When the inspector came out, she checked everything and the only thing she kinda gave me crap for, is that I assembled the septic tank myself, and they didnt get to see that part. The rest checked out perfectly.
Pat the smell was bad enough lol.
I get to dig up a septic system today, thats always fun! The smell is oh so crappy!
Funny shorty story this reminded me of. Bout 5 years we head over to my friend Brians house to have fun, drink a few beers, go wild, the usual. Well we didnt know that Brian had told the entire county about and we didnt care, it wasnt OUR home...
Anyways it had rained like 4 days straight prior to this. I was in the basement playin pool with a few other of the "regulars" that were still allowed inside. I noticed a faint smell of sewage and started askin everyone who did it...
Not 2 minutes later I walk into the laundry room and someone flushes the toilet...well there is a pipe in there that busted and it literally sprayed $### EVERYONE around that room. Their septic system was backing up or something and it was horrible. But as usual the alcohol in us found this absolutely hilarious and it took us 2 more flushes to finally compose ourselves long enough to tell Brian.
It happened the next party too. Needless to say there were no more parties after the 2nd time!
The house was only 6 years old and it did that. Mine on the other hand is 21 this year and NEVER backed up once no matter how much rain we get! RID-X baby!
Glad you didnt have to get too much into in Sheldon!
It was so nasty, but we couldnt stop peaking in the door to see it when someone flushed! So many people were there you couldnt stop them from using the bathroom either...so yea......new washer and dryer pluse a few other things when his parents got back...
I am no plumber, But I have to say, everytime I am involved in something whit a drain.. there are no 90's allowed..I wonder what the reason for the 90* is.. probably put on the books to keep somone else employed repairing it..Glad it worked out for you Sheldon
I have no idea why they want a 90 there. Its a 90 that is 6 feet underground too. The way this stack is built, thats the only way you can install it too.
Ah well, Ill modify it up next year and not worry about it ever again! (yeah right eh!)

I was just gonna say that, because its code. I see it here too. Glad it was an easy fix. I agree it doesnt make sense but whenever someone asks me about a particular code I usually smile and say "someone who makes a lot more money than me will have to answer the why for you."
One of my personal favorites is having tempered glass at the top of a stairway window, in case you fall UP the stairs and go through it...
Tristan, thats a great story, I really needed a laugh
I agree Joe. Actually, collector things aside, I cant stand seeing anything not used for its purpose. Which brings to mind my grandpa.
Vehicle/toy
Nissan 300Z twin turbo- Doesnt drive, garaged.
72' Mustang Mach 1 351C- Doesnt drive, garaged
0'something ski boat, why does an 87 yr old have a ski boat? lol he doesnt ski, also garaged and not used...
95 Aircat airboat with 350 corvette engine, bought custom and new, garaged....
76' Bronco -garaged....
It goes on and on but it drives me and everyone else bonkers.....Nobody is allowed to drive/borrow or use any of it.....Just for looks.
It sounds to me that, at least in your Grandpa's mind, those toys are the sum of his life's accomplishments. Admiring them reminds him of all of the things he has worked for. Even though he is getting older, he does not want any of those things to go away.

Haven't seen Cris post much in the past 24 hours. I hope everything is going well with her and her new unemployed house guest.
