Brent thats a pretty slick bike. I used to be big into mountain biking, and i was actually a mountain bike tech for awhile when I was younger!
What do you have for a front shock, shifters, and derailleurs?
Thats really cool Sheldon, I always wanted to do that. Even interned at a local shop for a minute!
I'm all Shimano XTR of course, and then Rock Shox Judy I think? It's kinda old school in that regard. BoXXer hubs, titanium bars, seat rails, skewers...just about anything I could find titanium....$$$
Nice man, I went with xt stuff myself, bought it when I was alot broker then i am now haha.
i have a rock shox psylo on the front of my bike too. Bought that from ebay one time and got a hell of a deal on it, it used to be a 1500 dollar shock haha. Not that I would ever pay that much for it.
I like the titanium stuff too, its pricey but well worth it if ya ask me.
I can tell ya another thing too, next bike I build is gonna have some killer disk brakes, the brakes i have work good, but i did alot of brake swaps from the v brake style to disks (even a few hyrdraulic) that they were just kickass!
Yeah man, discs for sure. I looked into upgrading last season, but it costs as much as some bikes! Looked to be a better deal to save up and get a new bike altogether. Not having discs holds me back from a lot of trails, since I can ride faster than the bike wants to stop! XT stuff is awesome, remember DX and LX ? lol....I know I do...Even remember EXAGE....I've been into biking since I was about 5 and I have one of those photographic memories....
My brother and my employee have some amazing bikes... My bro's front shock was $1100 alone.... Yet I still kick their butts on the old GT..
Oh yeah man i remember dx an lx stuff, i installed alot of that stuff as upgrades, and they were good upgrades! I havent even looked into components anymore so I have no idea what quality they would be now haha.
I was looking at upgrading a few things on my bike again too, but its just not worth it. I built it 5-6 years ago, and although its still a rock solid well built light bike, I could go buy a brand new one and be alot farther ahead!
Im not sure what i would get for a new one though, the choices now a days are even more then back when I was really into it, and there was a ton of choices back then lol.
My bro worked here for a bit last year building wheels and such, so when I do get a new bike I may have him build it. As far as what I'd get...Not a clue... I really enjoy the cross country stuff, so I'll keep the GT for that. Probably go with a nice downhill bike, then maybe head up to Whistler with it!!!
I have very little knowledge of my bike.... I did all the computer work for a guy that had a bike shop, and we got to be friends. He told me (literally) "If I sell you that you'll break it in half in weeks, skewer yourself & die. I need my computers working, so you have to buy this one." OK. I paid the man and bought a Giant VT2. Freeride, so it's heavier than cross country rides, but when you get air.... plush, baby!! Only $2500 new... my tri bike was cheaper!!
No ti, etc. - only thing not original is the computer, seat, tires & tubes - and a chainring I mashed.
I'm off to bed. 3:30 is coming soon and I need to get some sleep. But I did get in some climbing at my gym tonight with my buddy... oooohhhh, I miss climbing. I'm bringing my gear to Wellingham bro!
Giant VT2 is an awesome machine and more like what I should be riding!!! Cool man..
Chris, my employees bike are like 7 or 9 speed or something??? They are strictly downhill bikes, One front gear and 7-9 rear gears and a huge pulley to keep the chain tight!
Oh shoot, wifey is telling me its time to watch "get smart" hope its good!
I have a bike. It's hanging upside down in my garage. Been that way for years... It's a 10-speed, Schwinn, I think.
I get a kick of people riding mountain bikes around here. $600-$1200 bikes meat for serious riding that see asphalt 99% of the time. I guess it's the same with the big 4x4 SUVs. Status symbols.
I'm off to the rack. Just finished up some testing, and I have to get back at it tomorrow. Sayonara!!!!
