Warmed up to a balmy 6 degrees when we left the hotel to do the audit. Thank goodness we were able to get finished up there quickly and hit the road early for Des Moines. What should have been a 4 hour trip took over 7 hours because of the weather. It was snowing and icing the whole trip. It never warmed up over 8 degrees.

Defroster would not keep the windshield clear either, because it was so cold. Everyone was having that problem...about every mile or two there would be a car pulled off the road scraping their windshield. I ended up having to stop and buy washer fluid. Used over 4 gallons of the stuff just today.

Conditions were deceptively slick too. I saw several accidents, cars in the ditch, and even one semi truck on its side in the median. I'm very thankful we were not involved in any of the accidents today. However, driving for that long in that kind of weather has me absolutely beat. My mind is shot from being at attention all day and tensions in the truck were starting to run high from being cooped up together all day in the treacherous conditions. I'm glad the day is over.

There's a chance we'll be able to head home tomorrow evening instead of Thursday evening, as the original plans called for. That would be excellent since the forecast for tomorrow night is clear and free of precipitation, but another snow storm is in the forecast for Thursday night. We won't know until in the morning when we get to the company though, whether or not what our schedule will be.

Sorry for the length, y'all. Just had to vent a little. I'm sure most of you see my long *** posts and just skip right over them anyway.
Glad to hear you weren't in any of those wrecks!!

I'm SERIOUSLY considering going back to FL sooner than originally planned. I could use nice warm white sand beach with a cooler full of brewskies setting next to my chair............
