Joe, it does hold up better than particle board (now called MDF to make it sound better), but the glue/resin that holds the wood chips together does deteriorate when exposed to the rain or UV. The exposure 1 glue (CDX) does help it stay together, but if we'd have had a hail storm every 3-5 years which required your roof to be replaced, the OSB wouldn't be holding up that well. Of course the 3-ply plywood would be telegraphing the rafter by now since it tends to warm more than the old stuff.

You can still get the 5-ply or better in BC (interior) in both pine and hardwoods, but it's a lot more pricey. I used Red Oak for my cabinets when I built my house.

I'm still 12+ pages behind, so if any of this has come up already, I apologize.
every glue line in a piece of veneer plywood makes it stiffer. There is also more handling as the thinner veneer is easier to break, especially in larger sheets. They take the veneer, 2 "sets", with alternating grain, 1 goes through a roller for the glue application( both sides at once), the other goes in the stack, they alternate the stack and probably stack 3-4 pieces thick in the press at once. Hydraulic pressure clamps it flat....Radio frequency, hot oil conduction, or steam heats the glue to set it, it comes out for trimming....a damn hot operation.... but if you ever get to see a radio frequency plywood press its kinda cool....completely wipes out FM radio reception while the RF is on.

Cris, you are a wonderful mom.

oh, and plywood sucks now, yes. My lumber yard only stocks 5 ply in 1/2'' though, and I do mean 1/2'', not that7/16 wannabe stuff. It matters.

Lisa- Meat you cant eat huh?...not going there!

They're not UNattractive.... they just LOOK young... Out of my last 5 g/f's, 4 were 24-26 but NONE of them looked it - they just had a more .... mature .... look to them... tough to explain, but that's the gist of it
