Sounds like what I do from time to time Gerry. Ive actually made quite a few extra bucks over the years doing that. Best ones havent been fords though, best one was a 93 honda civic, and the second best one was a 99 jeep grand cherokee.
When it comes to making a few extra bones, I would even buy a chevy to fix and flip haha.
Hey thats cool! Ive always shyed away from opening up transmissions and differentials. When I was young my dad was always hesitant to yank them apart, and I "caught" that hesitance from him. I dunno why though, I take every other damn thing apart that I own and it doesnt take long to figure it out, a tranny would be no different!
Did you ever get training with trannies, or just yanked one apart and taught yourself how to fix them?
I started in the late 70s working in a tranny shop then I went to Centenial College in Toronto, it was a 2 yr course, then about 10 yrs later I got my Class A techniciens license.....once you start doing trannies there all the same concept...
Sherwin you go through toys and stuff so damn fast! What kind of bike did ya make a deal on now??
My KTM is just about done and ready to be on the road. I still have to make a skidplate for it, get a horn button, and Im waiting for some new tkc 80 tires in 17 inch to come in and she will be complete... except for the mods I plan!
you sound like my wife... She estimated 6 months from getting rid of the harley to having another bike. I've beat her by a month Its an '08 Hayabusa with approx 10k on it. Lightly laid over, but professionally fixed then with a "custom" paint scheme. I have to see it in person to confirm the deal, but the pics look impressive and I hope it looks as well in person. In 2008 the engine and body was re-worked for a change. The motor recieved an extra 20+/- hp and more torque than the 99-07's...the exact numbers vary depending on what you read, but essentially between 170-180hp at the rear wheel, the 99-07 reading at 150-160. Torque on the new motor comes in around 105 or so lbft... with a weight of just over 500lbs, it'll put a smile on my face
So prep, what do you say about taking that katoom for a trip down the oregon coast late fall?
Damn Sherm that sounds like a hell of a bike! With that much HP, shes gonna be a damn screamer for sure! I wouldnt be worried about it being laid over either. Ive worked on enough bikes now to realize that they are either good, or bad haha, and its pretty much simple as that. Theres not much to em!
As for the trip to oregon, I seriously would love to, but I got a little one blessing us in july sometime, so Im sorry to say I will be pretty busy with that, as well as I probably have a few new university classes starting in the fall.
Would be a hell of a fun trip though! Here I thought I would have a chance to keep up so someone, then ya go and get a bike with 60-70 more horse haha.

It should be a fun one. The laying down doesn't bother me because the guy was honest about it. I was dealing on a 2009 GSXR750 locally pictures showed it to be showroom, only 1100kms on it and stored for 2 years. The guy tells me its like brand new, but its at the dealer getting an oil change and didn't know if it had been done yet. I say I'll go there and have a look at it. I get there and it has a 1400.oo work order to replace a pile of the plastic, clutch lever and other things. Well, I don't follow through on a deal once I've been lied to. I don't care how it will look after its fixed, and I know its only flesh wounds...come to think of it, perhaps I should make him a ridiculous offer on it...might come out ahead...
Sounds like you're on for attempting "worlds greatest husband" and a professional student. Let me tell you, a month after the arrival, you just might be kicked out of the house, so don't forget about a trip
I wouldn't hesitate to think that the katoom could spank the Hayabusa off the line and perhaps to 50k or so. The torque curve of those v-twins is very impressive. The first trip through BC on my '06 Hayabusa was with my cousin who rode a Suzuki M109. We hopped off a set of lights in Kelowna, him with his wife on the back and their luggage (say bike +350lbs), me riding solo but with my luggage (say bike +240lbs) with already 250-300lbs difference in weight with the bikes alone. That M109 was almost neck and neck with me to about 80km/h. Seeing that front tire reaching for the sky was an amazing sight too. I've got a lot of respect for that bike, 109hp, 100ftlb, and it comes on low in the rpm range. Top speed isn't that impressive, but it gets there quick.
Sherm I dont blame ya for not following through with the deal once lied to. Although I do think that throwing a super low offer is the way to go haha. The guy might just say yes, and a deal is a deal, is a deal!
I would love love to take a far trip sometime on the bike. I love bikes too, ever since my first one, which was a early 70s yamaha 100 cc street bike. The clutch was screwed and my parents didnt want to spend money on me back then, so I used to push start the bike, and drive it everywhere on our farm. Ya sure learn balance driving a street bike at 100km/h through a worked up field when your 10ish years old haha.
Mind if I ask, whats the "new" to you 'busa worth? Ive seen a few of em for sale from time to time, and they really arent that badly priced ever. The big damn ktm enduro bike I wanted was always more pricey!
Oh and Ive lost the title for "worlds greatest husband" a long time ago haha. You guys can see what im like on here, and just amplify it and thats me in person
