There is a guy here in town that just picked up a 49 Fargo 3/4ton and is putting a Cummins Diesel in it and it's going to be a very tight fit. I hope it works out for him.
That would be interesting about the Cummins, John. I have a 1950 Fargo 1 ton stepside short box and there is sure not a lot of room in those engine compartments. I had been looking around for something to replace the flathead 6 if it turns out bad and have been wondering about a slant 6 but again not much room.
This truck has the 9 foot box and the whole truck in general is in fantastic condition, it had been kept in a barn and was parked for 25 years. I'm not sure how this engine swap is going to turn out, he has to cut into the firewall . When I seen it there didn't look like there was going to be any room for a rad so don't know how things are going to fair.
That is great he is rescuing the old Fargo and giving it a new lease on life. They are actually really nice looking old trucks. Mine has the 7 foot box but I think most were the 9 foot box.
A lot of old trucks out here had the grain door cut into the tail gate alright. I sure remember them from when I was a kid. Mine came without a tail gate but my wife found a Fargo one and bought it for me for Christmas last year. Good wife!
Yes the 50 and 49 look the same but they changed the look in 51. As far as I know we never got any 3/4 tons out here, just 1/2 tons and then 1 tons. Mine is the same as the Dodge B2D and I think the 3/4 tons are the same as the Dodge B2C. My Fargo model is an FN2-116.
