Cab removal

I have the cab completely stripped and the cab mounts removed. So far so good, however i have a 4 speed, with granny. Doesn't look like the shifter can be removed from the tranny. I think the transfer case shifter can be removed from the linkage. How can i get the cab off of the frame if i can't get the gear shifter out? By the looks of it i'll have to try and lift the cab about 2 feet more than i want to, to go over the shifter. Let me know if any of you have encountered this, i did a search but didn't find anything pertaining to this.

I don't proclaim to be an expert, but, that shifter should come out of there. If you can get a pic or if you know what it is, post it up. Somebody will come along whos done it before. Just a thought. The ones I've seen have a bell shaped collar just at the base of the shifter, which just unscrews. If it is that kind, the collar will have flat sides around it for a big set of channel locks or something. Hope that helps.

I'll try to get a picture of it tomorrow. The shifter sits in a housing that bolts to the case, this housing includes the backup light connector. I'm just a little hesitant to take it apart because i don't want to b*tch up the tranny. I guess if it's the only way then i'm stuck and will have to go that route.

The more i look at it the more i think i can maybe just roll the cab backwards and clear both of the shifters. I'm not sure i have the ceiling clearance though.

That shifter has a ring that pushes down and turns about 1 1/2" and pops up out> use channel locks they will open up to what size u need. Just put the tranny in neutral. I could post a pic tomorrow of one apart if u need, just let me know. If u go to LMC Truck Parts: Chevy Chevrolet Blazer S10 GMC Jimmy S15 Ford Bronco Ranger Pickup Pick Up Accessories/Catalogs and go to page 30 there is a pic of one.

T18 - it screws off.

NP435 - it pops off.

It's that dome shaped thing at the end of the shifter to the trans. Remove taht, and the shifter should fall out.

I have the NP435, i thought about that except it looks like there is a pin that goes through the ball, the pin is through the housing.

Just like Armstrong said - if NP 435, push down on the domed cap and give it a turn (counter clockwise I believe).

Is just a spring holding the cap up - once you push down and turn it should pop right up and be able to pull the shifter out.

I got it however i just popped it out and ruined the cap. Good thing you can still get them.

So back to the point of the post... I have the cab completely ready to lift off. Is there a "best" way to do it. Since it is sitting on the frame rails it will need to be lifted and carried over the frame, one way or the other. Fancy foot work and four guys is what i'm thinking unless you guys have a tip. Thanks...

That's pretty much what I did. With everything out of your cab, it's not too heavy. I had four guys (including myself).

I used my engine hoist to remove my cab, but if you have 4 friends that will probably be quicker.

I was able to use my shop crane to lift it on and off several times. Nice to have a wife or buddy around just in case, but you can do it.

I took my cab off today Jacked up both sides and surported it and push the frame out from under it. If you dont have enough people to help you lift it this way works.

I left the doors on all mine when i changes them and used a 2x4 with a chain over top the cab. Used a big hoist my uncle has thats about 20 ft or so tall. Not a good idea if everything thing is still in the cab.
