Problem: Power lock is jammed on DS door, and so is the interior door handle. I'm having to "Bo Duke" right now, and I don't look too cool at 50 pounds overweight!
I can't jimmy the lock either...something inside is jamming the mechanism.
How do I get the door panel off while the door is closed?
I have a first generation Explorer, but I had a neighbors door apart, and I think it's the same thing as yours. Yes, it's possible to get the panel off with the door closed, but it takes a little bit of doing. As I recall, there are some plastic close-out pieces at the handle that just pop off, revealing one or two screws. There's also another screw at the bottom rear corner of the door. You'll likely need a stubby screwdriver for that one. Most older door panels pop inward to get them off. Not this one!! It needs to be pushed *UP* to disengage plastic hooks from the door. I can't remember if there's more fasteners at the armrest. Someone else may need to clarify if I'm correct on this...
By the way...the lock actuator is likely frozen up. You can disconnect the link arm and see if the door handles (inside and out) work normally before you buy another actuator.
