Go to Lowes and pick up a jug of Crown Sol-U-Strip -- the thick stuff. They have a watery one too, so make sure you get the right one. Then after you peel off the foil, keep painting that stuff on there to keep it wet for about 30 mins. After that, start rubbing it down with shop towels & wire brush for the really tough spots. Then hit it with steel wool or SOS pads. If you look at the thread I did on this, there are pics of it in process.
Towed for the first time with the foil off and wow is it loud. Some say its annoying, i can see how that would be true if your taking a long trip. It sounds like a jet engine keeps spooling up. Its awesome! 6637 + foil delete (THUMBS UP)
Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Temp is not the issue after all, Pure sound. I tow alot, I think I will keep the foil on for now. I'll try to get my buddy to do his first, then I will know forsure if i like the noise!
foil delete DONE! I took pics throughout the process, and put them in my photobucked with some descriptions of process, etc. If anyone is comtemplating doing it, i recommend it. Its not much louder cruising around, but over 2000rpm she screams pretty loud. i like it thought, with a 2003 with an automatic its hard to hear the engine, this makes it a little louder and easier to hear if something sounds off. the link to the pics is in my SIG. i took a pic of the tools i used too, except for the sockets to remove the stuff. the battery box comes out with 4 bolts, and the intake pipe is obviously just a hose clamp. total, with the hour for the paint to dry, it took about 2-1/2 hours.
