Foil Delete Explanation?

What exactly is the foil delete mod? Is that referring to the foil on the driver's side up pipe? What does it do?

It is referring to the driver's side intercooler pipe, that has the stick-on foil that is designed to quiet noise, and probably reflect a small amount of radiant heat from the exhaust manifold right below it. If you remove it, it looks cleaner, you can paint the pipes if you wish, and it makes the turbo a little more audible

Do you just pull the foil off? Is there anything complicated about it?

Powdered Metal Rods: Cheaper way to manufacture connecting rods to exact tolerances and weights, on later model 7.3's, but they aren't quite as strong. Most people on this forum will tell you not to mod in excess of 400 hp on PMR's.

Nothing complicated, just time consuming. The foil has an insulation backer and is put on with adhesive. Remove the tube and spend some time cleaning. Also make sure the inside of the boots are clean before you put the tube back in and tighten things up. A shot of hairspray will help the boots stay on the pipe.

Here's a couple of pics I borrowed from Joe's gallery when he removed his foil

It's just a matter of removing the adhesive & gunk.

What do you all think about just removing approx. the top 1/2 of the foil and leaving the bottom for protection? This would maybe give a little bit of a cleaner look and still offer protection from the heat off the manifold? I don't know if it would still allow a little more whistle though. Just thinking out loud.

I guess you could but my foil was so dirty, falling off, etc. It was easier to strip the whole pipe. And I would love to know how much heat protection the foil was providing anyway. There was another thread that talked about this not too long ago and I don't think anyone had solid evidence about the heat argument. I just think it's a non-issue and Ford put the foil on for noise reduction.

its not a heat issue at all. its purely for sound deadening. if you want cool and clean looking then once you take the foil off get the outside only sandblasted and get them powdercoated. if you want tomorrow ill post up some pics of mine. ive got two sets. a blue and orange set. they look great.
