On the intercooler pipe on the driver's side of the engine, you can take the foil off. Doesn't hurt or help performance, just more of a looks issue. On edit: you get a louder whistle out of your turbo as well.

Look at these pics:

The IC pipe on the right of the photo has the foil deleted. Some members have painted the pipe as well.

Just a warning...whatever kind of glue that ford uses to stick that foil on is extremely sticky. Removing the pipe is no problem, but getting the foil off is kinda tuff. about 45 minutes worth of work if you have all of the materials(adhesive remover, brillo pad, paint, good pair of gloves(the foil is a little sharp)).

I used gel-type paint stripper to get the sticky stuff off. Couple coats, rinse and buff with steel wool.

Just a warning. If your wife thinks your truck is loud now, you are not going to impress her with this mod.

My new truck is so much quieter than my old 96. I'll leave well enough alone

It's only the whistle that gets louder, and that's only in the upper RPMs. Really only an issue when you have the WW. My stock wheel with the peeled I/C pipe isn't much louder at all. I liked the WW whistle though!!

I already get some looks just because of how loud the exhaust is, can't wait till I get a WW.

You're welcome, and I WILL check with that guy later. You just reminded me of a funny thing that happened to me a week or two ago. I was heading to the office having just left my neighborhood. Truck was still pretty cold. I took off from a light -- nothing special, pretty much babying it while it was cold. At the next light, this guy in a plain-jane bottom of the barrel, late chevy 1500 pickup (we're talking steel wheels and no badging at all -- probably was a V6!) is giving me a big thumbs up and smiling and all this. I was a little unnerved to be honest. I wasn't even getting on it!! He obviously like the sound, since he was on the "business end" of the exhaust (my right side). Either that or he was gay. I didn't take any chances so I got the fork outta there!!!
