Sorry I havent posted back yet about that. We realy have not tried it the much yet but I can tell you this its does not sound like a Semi tucks jake brake but it will slow you down.
How much does the decel tune run? Is it the regular price or custom? As soon as Jody gets back from his week off, I'm placing my order for a new tuner. I currently only have the flashed 80e PCM. I planned on getting no start, stock, 80 tow, 80e, J Brake, 140 Smoke. I very rarely tow anything with my truck.. maybe a 6x12 trailer for hauling my atvs around in but thats it. Is there any difference between the 80 tow and 80e? I can't see myself ever towing over 3,500 pound at the max. Mostly 1500 or less.
I do like the Jake Brake for the sound... reminds me of my manual tranny days.
I think it was $40 like the rest of them but I will check the paper work in the morring to back that up.
hmm well that kinda of disappoints me ah well then ill be saving my 45 bucks for somethin else...maybe gettin a blank turbo pedistal and new ic boots
I think you are confused. There is a difference between a jake brake and an exhaust brake.
The jake brake is a loud glug glug glug type noise. its because its either keeping all the valves open or closed not sure (actually, it sectable between 2 or 4 cylinders) which slows the truck down.
An exhaust brake is just that, a plate that restricts the exhaust flow right after the turbo. The sound is a hissing sound thats pretty loud at the tail pipe.
The jake brake is far more effective at slowing the truck down than an exhaust brake but both work well.
This is the first time I have heard that DP is doing this with the EB and im totally sending in my tuner to get this put on!
A jake brake is when the camshaft is hydraulically overridden by a device mounted on the top of the cylinder head, under the VC and on top of the rocker arms. Electronically controlled solenoids open the exhaust valves near TDC compression, no fuel is injected, however all the cylinder pressure that is normally held in to complete the power stroke is let out in to the exhaust manifold, thus preventing engine acceleration. Then, the valves close, and as the piston travels down, there is a tremendous vacuum inside the cylinder, (Think 16-17:1) also slowing down the rotating assembly. You can see how that really slows down these big trucks, it's adjustable, 2, 4 or 6 cylinders. Some engines can actually produce MORE braking horsepower than acceleration horsepower. For instance a Detroit series 60 at school is designed to put out 430hp however produces 475bhp.

Thanks for that clarification. i was on the right track but no where close at the same time, haha.

Thanks guys, I know they are different and I know SORT OF how they are different, but can't explain it. That is why I kept calling it decel instead of Jake Brake.
Maybe I can talk my wife into riding with me and using the video feature on the new digi cam to record it if you really want to know. Can I post this up to the site or do I have to go to you tube? Maybe Nick should just get some footage for me when he is doing his smoke movies
