Swapping XL and XLT Instrument Clusters

Does any one know if you can swap in an XLT instrument cluster, plug it in and have it work? Want to upgrade to the built in tach, which my "hose out interior" XL does not have but the '05 XLT did (at least according to my data book anyway). Thanks!

Iirc someone did a XL to a FX2 or 4 cluster swap a few months back. ...May poke around here in a bit to look for myself.

I know for a fact that FX4 gauges will fit a XLT no problem, but someone should try in an XL...I have a set of FX4 for sale...LOL

Did you put in a cluster with a tach? Just wondering how it went 'cause I'd like to do the same thing.

Thanks. Just printed that out. I'll take it to the dealer, but I think it'll take some convincing that they can do it for me. I already got the cluster and the cruise control switches from a junk yard but that was the easy part. It took calling 3 different dealers just to get one to agree to do the activation of the cruise. The first one would put me on hold forever and the second one at least talked to me but insisted that it wouldn't work unless I bought a new computer. So, truck goes in Tuesday after next for the cruise and I'll take the print out and the cluster with me and hopefully get that done too.
