Can I swap a XLT instrument cluster for a FX4 one?

I've search for over an hour and all I could find was swapping a Lariat instrument cluster to an XLT, STX, or XL and all of the problems that go along.

Well, I have a XLT but I want to switch to the FX4 instrument cluster. Is this possible? Other then getting the miles programmed, is there anything else I should be aware of?
<O
Will my P.A.T.S. work?....will the truck start? <O

Will all of my XLT functions work?...i.e. A/C, dome light fade, door/key chime, 4x4, etc. I was told that they won't if you don't program my XLT cluster into the FX4 one....is this true?<O

Thanks for the help.

Anytime you change the cluster, even to put the same type cluster in, you have to have a Ford scan tool to do a Programmable Module Installation (PMI) with either the data retrieved from the original module or programmed with as built data only avaliable from a secure Ford website for technicians, PLUS you must either do a parameter reset and/or reprogram two keys.
Now there may be work arounds from the underground but that is what you are supposed to do.

That is aside from needing the module set for correct odometer reading.

I wish it was a easy thing to do, I would really like to have the FX4 gage on my XLT.

I only agree with needing the dealer to reprogram the mileage b/c it will register whatever is showing on the gauges. Other than that the only thing you need to do when swapping the clusters is disconnect the battery and swap out. Everything else works just fine, no programing keys or sensors.

Not sure if a truck that came with no tach (XL)will accept a cluster with a tach (XLT, FX4 etc..), but a FX4 cluster will definately fit in an XLT.

I know this post is OLD... but I want to do the same thing. Forgive me for asking this, but are you completely sure that the FX4 will work in an XLT truck??? I've heard lots of people saying that there are issues, but of course, I'm hard headed. IF I can find an FX4 cluster, I would love swapping mine for it. If I swapped it out, and it doesn't work, will sticking my old one back in cure it?? Last thing I need is my truck not starting again! Lol! Oh, and what about the numbers associated with each cluster type... are there specific ones that will swap out easier? I believe these numbers are located on the sicker under the shroud on the cluster...
Thanks for any info you might be able to give me here.

xlt cluster to Fx4

I just replace my 2007 f150 XLT cluster with a FX4 and had no problems. It was plug and play. Everything work just fine.No programming needed.Take's about an half hour to do.I also change the stock black face to white.I took the time to sand off the green tint so that it would light up white.I installed white leds and it looks great.

Sand off "green tint" where exactly I wonder?

I prefer black faces and white numbers, etc .... but that's just a personal preference thing .... and it's not saying the white face looks bad because it looks great on that set .... but I really like the night shot.

My XL f150 has a built in tach. Hold the trip reset button before you put the key in, keep holding it as you put the key in and start it. flip threw a few options and a digital tach comes up. Gotta do that every time. So i know i have a tach sensor, just not on the cluster.

We can correct the mileage to be accurate on the new cluster if you want. Just call us at 800-547-2049 if you want to talk through the options.
