instrument cluster update

I have a '95 XL, and my instrument cluster do not have a tachometer.

Now that it's out, I wonder if I can replace it with another one that has the tachometer. Is the wiring same for all models (XL, XLT and Eddie Bauer), which would be required for the cluster swap to be successful?

Also, what would be considered a fair price for one? I see one on eBay for $150.

TIA

As far as I know, it's plug and play.......
It's the same way on Rangers too, tach cluster plugs in with no problem.

Much better to pay $25 at a wrecking yard.

Yeah, I know $25 is much better than $150, so I'll look around in nearby junkyards.

The eBay ad is saying only 94/95 Bronco, but I don't think there is a difference between the comparable F150/250/350 clusters and the Bronco clusters. However, they may be right on the years.

The tachometers are definitely plug and play. Be careful though, the wiring on the printed circuit board between years is slightly different. And yes, I believe you will need a 94-95 instrument clusters tachometer in order for there to be no issues.

You will want to keep the donor's instrument cluster, and then put your odometer portion in the "new cluster". This is because you will need the smaller fuel/coolant elec/oil gauges that go on the left of the odometer, then you have the tachometer on the right side.

The odometer will easily swap in and out of the new one, and keep your mileage and everything.

I did this about 7 years ago, but I used a 93 instrument cluster as the base in my 96. The tachometer and everything worked great, but because of the slight wiring difference, the circuit to my alternator was left open, so my battery wouldn't charge. I had to find a specific 96 cluster to work.

The wiring between f-150-350's shouldn't matter (except MAYBE diesel options for f series but I don't think so), same goes between xl-eddie Bauer; they are all the same. The current base cluster I've been using for the past 7 years is from an f-150, just with my original odometer in it! I'm now at 235000 miles woohoo! Having a tachometer, especially with a manual transmission is very nice.
