Hey guys; I'm thinking about installing a regulated return kit, but I wanted to check what real-world improvements I might be able to expect. The guys selling these kits tout the following:
- Ability to adjust fuel pressure
- Increased throttle response
- Smoother idle / less cackle
I've already done the in-tank mod, but am wondering what people have seen with their regulated return kits -- $550 is a lot to drop on one mod, for sure.
it will take any air left in the system out and it is an eaay way to adj fuel pressure..what you was told is dead on... you can also get this kit in the link below and shim for the fuel prassure..its not a reg return...but does just about the same thing as a reg return kit
- Ability to adjust fuel pressure
- Increased throttle response
- Smoother idle / less cackle

Mike I have both the intank and the reg return from ITP. You have the ability to adjust the fuel pressure under the hood, very easy to do. It definately quieted the truck down especially in the cab. I really wouldn't say I saw a huge difference in throttle response but it runs alot smoother now. Hope that helps.
The adjustable regulated return is nice, but the concept can be done for a lot less money. I mean really, how many times will you adjust the fuel pressure? Youll set it once maybe twice, then you wont mess with it again.
The CC-Kit utilizes a fixed orifice to achieve the fuel pressure bump, and you can get as many orifices as you want from the hydraulic store for less than $2.00 each. If you want more pressure, get a smaller orifice, less pressure, go larger. it is the same concept as an adjustable regulator, but instead of turning a screw, you use a wrench and remove and replace the orifice.
Reg Return=$550
CC-kit= $150
5 orifices of your choosing= $10
under hood fuel pressure guage kit= $60
Both Kits have great instructions. Both kits can support a fuel bowl delete, if you want to go that route. See my gallery for a pic of my DFA kit with the fuel bowl delete.
On edit: Jason at DFA will soon be offering a full replacement fuel system for our trucks, I am one of the beta testers. I would think that you may be able to get a full replacement system for a little more thant the regulated return. now the benefit of that is it includes a 95GPH FASS fuel pump.
I have messed with the FPR shims, and I will tell you the replacement system is truely the way to go. 75-80PSI at idle, with very minimal pressure drop at WOT with my DP tunes.

These mods are not for performance. They are for service life. Your injectors don't like pumping air through them.
I just installed the ITP in-tank mod (with fuel filter). The engine is quieter now that I'm not sucking up so much air in the line. I don't feel much difference in throttle response (although when I romp on it going on the freeway I throw a bigger cloud than before). As for MPG, I just did the mod last night so I haven't had enough time to tell yet. Well worth the money though if I extend the life of the injectors.

I agree. I didn't see any difference in throttle response with the ITP kit. Maybe a little smoother, but not much. The best $65 I've spent on my truck was the HPX oil cross-over, it really smoothed things out and quieted the engine down.

Have any ideas how soon?? This is very interesting.

Dave you can read my write up of the Kit here https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/682637-got-fuel.html Send Jasonat DFA an email and see what he says about the time frame, and the cost. If your stock fuel pump has some miles on it, and you are thinking about a regulated return this is a clean and easy Kit to tackle that supplies plenty of fuel.
Thanks Brandon! I take it your still happy with it?
Very Much So. If you do get a kit from Jason, go to favorite home improvement store and get some rubber anti vibration washers to use between the pump braket and the frame. youll need three.(unless he is going to include them in the retail kit)

cut and paste from email about DFA Fass fuel replacement system.
Brandon- Glad to hear that it is all working well so far. Retail is going to be 699 for those without the CCK, and 649 for those with the CCK. Keep in mind when comparing to ITP’s kit at 550, that does not include a fuel bowl delete or upgraded pump. At least the last time I checked. In recent News for me though, On the Good side, my truck will be in an upcoming issue of Diesel World, bad news is My coolant wound up a gallon low, and my engine oil a gallon high, and white. So, once again the motor gets to come out. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
