So, 100+ years later what are we supposed to do? Just give them all the land that they want?

My point is that they suddenly have some foreign nations wanting to find another way to try to undermine our national security and they are just now realizing that they were treated unfairly?

What is your proposed solution? They got screwed, shafted, hosed, expletived....but it wasn't by the folks living on the land that they want. Do you now want to uproot them?

Like I said, and firmly believe, this is nothing but these external government trying to stir up some trouble.

Didn't most so-called Native Americans come to North America via Russia? Maybe Putin and the gang need to look a little closer to home and find these folks their true ancestral stomping ground and give them some oil-rich areas.
The indians, so called because Columbus was lost and confused and thought he landed in India, came over an ice bridge that connected todays Alaska with Siberia. The origins of the indian tribes is unclear. Modern day Mongolia, China, and other far east countries are what most ppl seem to agree upon.

Obviously, you can't uproot ppl from the Dakotas. But, before anyone condemns the Sioux, I suggest you visit either of the Sioux reservations of Standing Rock or Pine Ridge. Squallor personified. After the Little Big Horn Massacre, the US Army began a campaign to eliminate all the tribes. By 1890, what remained of the Sioux were stuck on those two reservations, or were sent to Indian Territory, today's Oklahoma.

Beginning in the late 1880's, the children of all the indian tribes were sent to special "Indian Schools" where they were "Americanized." They were severely punished if they spoke their own language, or engaged in any special tribal rituals.

I think this whole thing is completely stupid. In fact, the U.S. should disolve all indian reservations for the good of the country. It is 2007 people, for Christ sake. So they were here when we arrived, what the hell does that mean??. I don't see the germans setting up reservations for the germanian tribes, nor do I see France setting up the same for the ancient tribes of their countries.

The U.S. needs to stop trying to accomodate everyone's agenda. Get a grip Mr. Lakota, you are part of the United States, if you don't like it, leave!!!!

I agree, your ancestors, repeat, ancestors, got a raw deal a long time ago. Grow up and get over it!!!!!!

This is not a "paleface" writing. My ancestors were members of the Miami and blackfeet tribes, and we do not have one reservation, nor have we ever had one. We are citizens of the United States and proudly accept that fact and are looking for no freebies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get a Grip

Believe me, I am not condemning the Sioux people at all. I am condemning their leadership for apparently getting in bed with carpetbaggers. Not for one second will I believe that the Russians have good intentions or the best interests of the Sioux tribe at heart.

And I have personally seen the squalor that some of the tribes live in. I spent several weeks in New Mexico building houses for Navajo as part of the Southwest Indian Foundation Housing Program. It was an eyeopener. Since then I have donated time and money to Native American Indian causes. Very worthwhile program.

I don't think the Navajo tribe has one gambling casino, but those tribes that do, are doing pretty well today. If things continue, they may not get back all the land they lost, but they will get a fair chunk of change...far more than they ever got from the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

Did'ja know that: the **** Concentration Camps were patterned after our indian reservations?

Did'ja know that members of the German High Command were sent to the US to study the method of loading/unloading vehicles inre to flatbed railway cars in the 1930's?

The method was the first vehicle loaded on, was the first one off loaded. Where did the training sessions take place?

In Sarasota Florida, the winter home of the Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey Circus.

I am amazed to see someone claiming to be of native American heritage who knows so little about the history of the Indians across our country.

There are many who still try to live their material and spiritual lives in the traditional way as is their right. Our government has made unceasing efforts to quell Indian culture, including taking the children from parents and putting them in schools as Bill described, and this continues today. Many Indians choose to take their children and live in the wilderness and forego compensation just to raise their children themselves.

The reservations are, and have been infringed on at every opportunity and whenever some value in their land is seen. Discrimination against Indians is an institution with our government. They are not looking for a freebie as much as a fair deal and some respect.

So get an education about this business before you condemn the Indians.

There was a strong Indian culture in the Americas over ten thousand years ago, and much longer according to Indian lore. "Del Mar man," discovered in the seventies, was dated at forty thousand years so the Indian lore may well be correct.

Europeans have been here five hundred years.

The point, obviously, is that you of all people should know a lot more about the subject before you mouth off against the people who have been wronged for the last hundred years or more.

There is nothing either conservative or liberal about justice. So go puke on youself and your heritage. You disgrace yourself and your parents and grandparents.

No, I do not disgrace my heritage. My parents and grandparents became hard working americans and accomplished many good things in their lifetime.......They were realists and did not set around on some government grant, in some government housing, recieving government welfare telling everyone how proud they are to be a Native American. Times changed and they changed with it. No, you are wrong, I cannot discrace these people, because they refused to be discraced.

I only one thing to say to you avmike. Answer me this, as a member of american society, if germany, or france, or iran, came over here and starting killing every american they saw, took your house and land and most of your possesions from you, and threw you and 50,000 other people onto 50 acres 1000 miles from your house, you would be perfectly fine with that? If iran made you take on all there traditions and believe's you would just give in and do it, because, hell after all it is almost 2008 so you would just accept it.... you would not want to fight for what you had?

Grow some ***** and some brains man, because that would be the modern day equivalant to what happened to the native americans. The original people of europe are the native europeans, the native people of china, are the native chineese, get it? native americans are the only true americans as far as i'm concerned, they are the original people of this country, weather they come over on some ice bridge or not, they were the first to inhabbit the USA, and they were at it for a long time before anyone else, its not like they landed at the same time. and yes I do have some in me, not enough but I'm still damn proud of the fact that I do have some.

Oh gee i already know the answer to that question, were america and we have the biggest baddest military in the world, so we dont have to worry about that, wake up dude, the native americans probably thought the same thing.

hey man if the united nations were around back then they wouldnt have let that happen,............yeah right!

i agree with ya with what you say.

the indians didnt have a choice, they could have kept on fighting till noone was left, then they wouldnt even have reservations. or agree to some parcels of land to live on.

they want to have there land, take there citizenship, but they really dont want anything to do with todays norms, or society in general, unless its a casino. it reverts me back to my question a few threads ago. are they a dying breed, or is there actually growth in there census?

Folks, don't bother replying to Avmike. He no longer has access to this particular section of the site due to dragging in strong political slams in section clearly marked as off-limits to politics.

I also strongly encourage those calling him names take a breather to avoid suffering the same fate. Thanks.
