actually taking the hub out for the time being is an extremely bad idea. the axle is held in by the snap ring that is on the outside of the hub. when you take the hub off you can move the axle in and out, it won't fall out BUT it will move around. the nut i think your talking about is holding the wheelbearing on. the one with the four even slots in it. plus being where he lives, which is somewhat close to me within about a 50 mile range judging by what his info states, we have crap on the roads right now(slush, snow, dirt, sand, salt, and so on. if that get into the hub area with out the hubs in it it will definately go into the outer wheelbearing rendering it useless and broken. it sounds exactly what had happened to me with the clicking and clunking. when i was driving the auto hubs would engage and disengage, thus turning the driveshaft on and off and completely screwing with your transfer case. thats why i suggested taking out your drive shaft and it should solve the clicking temporarily. at least it did on mine until i got manuals.

This is why im hoping it actually is a hub problem and not something else... i know its not my brakes, just did those.. its a sound thats always there, i just get a grinding noise now.. i tryed to record it but idnt work lol... ill find out this weekend when i replace them
wish me luck, i need my luck to go in the other dirction now
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time with this Nextras... I wish I could come and do it for you, maybe take a load of your shoulders amongst all this crap. Did you guys have home insurance? A lot of times they cover break-ins and will reimburse you for stolen goods. I know it won't be the same but perhaps you could get SOMETHING back.
Reply back here whenever you wanna get those hubs in, we're all ready to give you whatever help you need brother. I did the swap only a couple months after getting my truck and it couldn't have been easier. Don't stress about it, seriously. Good luck brother.
Yes, homeowners insurance.
Everything is replaceable except for my coin collection i started when i was 10, and im now 17, pretty nice collection too.. *sigh* well things can be replaced, people cant, thankfully no one was hurt or otherwise. Local PD is going to dust for pronts soon...
But as i said above, i really hope all this noise is actuallt the hub, would really suck if it was something worse, but i cant think of anything else that it could be... gas mileage has considerably dropped
I hope it's your hub too....Sucks about the break in......shouldn't they be dusting for prints like.....a few days ago.....are they thinking ya'll are just gonna float through the house and not touch anything?Later
I'm not going to guarantee anything but from the sounds of it, the hub is your only possibility. If you're in 2wd, those hubs should be disengaged, which means NONE of your front drivetrain components would spin... So there really isn't much a place for noise to come from.

One can only hope, im hoping to replace the hubs tomorow. I definetly cant drive it anymore. It sounds like a friggin freight train comin at you.. loud enough for a police car to follow me to see if i got to my destination lol... im just hoping the hub didnt freeze up and its grinding the teth on the axel shaft... i think i would have known that by now though
Unfortuneatly, its not the hubs, well i should say its not JUST the hubs. The bearing on the rotor assembely is completely shot, about inch of play which is not good at all.. problem now it, me and my dad cant get the rotor assembely off. We took all the inside pieces out including the axel nut (requires the special socket) heres a picture, not the best of quality.. can anyone tell me if were missing something here?
If life could only be simple. I am definetly switching to the manual hubs though. I have a feeling the hub started many of these issues..
As you can see in the picture, many of the pins are sideways and many are just, well gone, probably ground up. Lets just hope the spindle isnt damaged
Holy crap dude, that bearing is TRASHED. I can't believe you truck even rolls.
Can't get the rotor off... Hmm. Did you have the two spindle nuts and locking right like this:
After those two spindle nuts come off, the rotor is just supposed to slide off. If it's stuck you could try using a rubber mallet to pound around the outside and break it loose.
Your wheel bearing let go, didn't necessarily have anything to do with the type of lockout you have.
The spindle is probably shot, by the looks of it the outer wheel bearings inner race spun on the spindle and it may be welded in place, that would explain why you can't pull it off. There is nothing there now that would hold it on, you have it all off.
That and the spindle is probably all tore up where the seal rides on it. That is if the inner wheel bearing is as bad or worse and the rotor spun off center.
Had a heck of a time getting back on to edit the page!
Yeh both the spindle nuts are off.. even tryed using a gear puller... there just isnt enough daylight in a day lol.. *sigh* just my luck, right before xmas.. the race around the spindle is still there so im hoping the spindle is still ok. Yes i did take the brake caliper and pads off.
While im here, i want to thank you all, mainlt frankenford and Skandocious, lots of helpful info and also putting up with my stubborness lol.
My Dads going to mess around with it a little more tomorow while i'm at work.. for now, it sits in my backyard on a jack with the wheel off and everything.. and of course a jackstand under the frame for the "just incase" reason
the race around the spindle is still there so im hoping the spindle is still ok.
Yea it is, the problem is with the roller bearings turned 90* the way they are the inner race had to spin with the wheel and it probably welded itself to the spindle in the process. Depends on how much you drove it.
The fact you can't pull the hub off is a sure sign of it sorry to say.
If you can get it off without further damage you may be able to clean it up with a fine file and some sand paper.
Myself I'd just replace it with a good used one, I'd replace everything it needs with good used parts. I don't buy "new" drive line parts unless I absolutely have to.
