the drivers side window on my 1998 f150 is slow to go down.the colder it gets the slower it goes.i have to help it down sometimes.my question is what do i need to lube or does the motor need replacing?
remove the door plastic panel and spray lube on the zee siccors that raise and lower the window. also put silicon spray on the edge of the window where it runs in the track front and back... motor is o.k. right now, if you push it, it will eventually burn up.
I had the same problem with my 98 F150 drivers window. Although which side does not matter. All I had to do was take it apart and grease it up and it's been working fine ever since. Motors are about $50.00 if you need one. The passenger side started to do the same thing a while later so I did that side too and all is fine. It's a bit of a job to do but not to complicated. The biggest problem is that the motor is bolted to the slide mechanism and that is RIVITED to the door. Who knows why? (Six Rivets) They will have to be drilled out and replaced with Short - Short bolts. I think 1/2" so they don’t interfere with the operation of the window when it travels up and down. Use lock washers too. Do not unbolt the motor without securing the counter spring. I drilled a hole through the slide mechanism and bolted it so it could not move. The spring is strong. Then remove the motor if necessary. You can test it when the slide mechanism with the motor is removed from the door. Just plug in the electric and try it out. Be careful how you hold on to it. There are posts about removing the door panel if you don't know how it comes off. Do a search on door panel removal.
The cost was $0.75 for six nuts, blots and washers.
I am facing the same problem with a 2000 F150, both windows,
tried to lubricate the passenger side regulator but
that was no help. I guess the motor is next. Are they
still riveted on the 2000?
I had this problem too on my passenger side. I pulled the panel apart, sprayed lube and it worked fine for about 3 months and now its doing it again. I guess I will just have to keep spraying it
you might try a spray that does not become "sticky". maybe spray with PB Blaster and let is soak into the pin and joint areas and between the plates. Sometimes just a squirt can with 10w30 will do the trick... some spray "greases" turn stick or hard in 3 months.
thank you guys for all the input. little things like this are starting to show up on my 1998 f150.the mileage is now at 165,000 and counting.it has been very dependable and has only left me once and that was because the battery died.

Actually, you don't have to drill out the rivets and remove the entire regulator. If you look close, you'll see 3 dimples in the inner door sheet metal that line up with the 3 bolts holding the motor to the regulator. Drill through the sheet metal with an approx 3/8" drill bit, remove the 3 screws and pull the motor out through an opening in the door, usually the speaker hole. Drill the holes big enough to get a socket through.
That spring is strong enough to sever fingers, so this is a much safer way.
This is something I have to do every other month. It is the window sliding through the weatherstrips. Shoot silicone or something into the weatherstripping and that should do it. raise the window up and down several times and it will speed up as it spreads through.....
