Power window brushes

One of my power windows dosen't always go up and down consitantly. Sometimes its fast and other times its slow. Has anyone ever taken the motor apart and cleaned the brushes? I was thinking maybe that needed to be done.

Power window brushes

Did you get a response to your question?? I, too, am having some problems with my power windows in my '90 f150. The passenger side started having problems several months ago, now the driver side window is doing the same thing. Both windows will drive down smoothly, but when I try to raise 'em, the motor will cycle, causing the widow to do an up/down action until the glass is fully down. I have replaced all switches, but no better performance. Any suggestions??

If your windows will not roll up and all you hear is a grinding noise then the gear inside the power window motor is broken into tiny pieces because for some reason it is made out of plastic and not metal. Anyway the only place I have been able to find a replacement is at O'Reily's. Hope this helps.

Power window brushes

I fixed one back in 98.
Yep, I ended up fixing it 3 times in a year.

The only real fix is a replacement motor.
That's what I ended up doing.

Let me guess > Driver's side?

The brushes are manufactured as part of the rear plate of the motor, and never need to be cleaned - they just wear away & you have to replace the whole motor to get new brushes.

The repair gear for the motor's drive section is available from Ford for about $15. It's a revised design that doesn't suffer from the degradation that causes problems with the OE drive. I can find the PN if your local dealer can't.
