Wow, Cowboy Steve! We are talking about filters, Yes? Cotton vs Poly vs Paper? Volant is running Powercore technology! Let's do the math? Narrow it down to something specific? Let me know what you need to learn, I have a pretty smart team behind me!!! Maybe not as funny but just as smart

I want to see the flow numbers of the 6637 compared to the Powercore technology.

2nd run on No2=481.1rwhp
3rd run on No2=481.3rwhp

3 runs with AFE stage2 netted:
1st run on #2=407.0rwhp
2nd run on No2=473.1rwhp
3rd run on No2=472.9rwhp

3 runs with open element netted:
1st run on #2=424.9rwhp
2nd run on No2=493.1rwhp
3rd run on No2=492.3rwhp
This is how I see the data. 1) Forget the AFE as it didn't fare well at all. 2) Your tymar cost you 11.4 HP, averaged over 3 runs, compared with no filter, which is what I'm assuming the 3rd run means, otherwise buy that "open element" filter. I'm a little confused, because I've always seen any filler that wasn't enclosed in an air box referred to as an "open element" filter.

Evidently the restriction of the tymar is costing you 11.4 HP. I'm wondering why you don't seem to be interested in getting some or all of that lost 11.4 HP back? Look at the pic below, and consider what you might do on the dyno with that configuration if you used a high power leaf blower to send a 65 mph wind directly up the inlet tube to the air box. This would simulate the HP you'd get for a drag race, or just accelerating onto the freeway to pass a Dodge.

At 65 mph you'll be PUSHING 858 CFM of cooler fresh air into your turbo inlet rather than making your turbo do the workload of PULLING the hotter under the hood air in there! You'd be generating about a 2" H20 RAM air pressure to help overcome the restriction of the filter element, and recoup at least some of that lost HP. If you check the Donaldson site, they advertise RAM air scoops that they claim are good for 3" to 5" H20 of boost RAM air at 65 mph. To me they look pretty ugly, but they claim to work better than the Genedad mod, which I'll admit is also fairly unsightly.

To do a realistic test to simulate the difference in intakes for towing, you'd have to start with an under the hood intake, and then work the truck hard enough to make its cooling fan lock up at 205F, then put it on the dyno with the hood closed, and measure the HP. Then follow that up with a fresh air intake using the leaf blower. I'm sure that kind of test will show even more that an 11 HP difference.

On my air filter data thread, I gave a link for the two high CFM, low restriction Donaldson filters that I included on the summary graph. These filters come in an air box with inlets, etc.. and it appears to me that they could be adapted for use on a PSD fairly easily.

Bill, I noticed that the largest universal Powercore filters only come in 8X8. Can custom sizes be made to order?

GENE!! That kind of test purposely stacks the results heavily in favor of the your setup! When moving at any kind of speed, the under-hood temps are a lot less than sitting still. How is it "realistic" to simulate moving at 65 MPH for your setup, then completely ignore it to let the heat sit there and build under the hood without movement for the other?

Unfortunately, I won't get to read your response until this evening -- I'm about to head out the door on a 7 hour round trip to Austin...
